Working Tables into Documents
« on: January 18, 2010, 12:10:45 PM »
How do you make tables, like the pretty ones in the official DnD books and on GitP, on a text document?  That would do wonders in organizing my revisions once I make it into a PDF.  Thanks!

Neither actually, as I have a plethora of those available.  I'm needing to know how to embed the tables (e.g. here) of this kind into a text document (that will then become a PDF, also not an issue).  Hopefully this is clearer (sorry about that...I'm too succinct for my own good sometimes :P).

the term, 'text document' is bothersome.

if you mean, notepad .txt tables are not in your future. at least not nice tables.

if you mean a document with text in it, then we have something we can work with.

what program are you using to compose your documents?

office / open office you can 'insert table', 10 collums by 22 rows should work for most dnd things... adjust font style , font size, what nots... n yer done..

Can you do the same thing in MS Word/Wordpad?  I can always DL Open Office IIRC (I think that's the freeware one) if not.

word and word pad are very different.

word yes,

word pad, maybe, i dont remember, its been ages since i used it.

for basic practice with table making, i would start w/ a spread sheet program like excel or open office calc.

its all the same once you go to do it in word / write, but the stuff is more clearly labeled in the spreadsheet apps

Awesome, thanks!  I already have all the programs I need then, to begin working.  I'll look into GoogleDocs though, if nothing else to see if I can make something akin to the Hypertext SRD (that would be the ideal, but FUCK that's a lot of work...).

Crap, didn't let me access it.  Tis ok though, if googledocs can do it, I can figure it out I imagine.  Can't be any harder than any other word processing program :P
