The soulknife question
« on: December 30, 2009, 04:51:34 PM »
I will tell you the history of my quest, so you may understand where i come from.

Years ago, while i was just a new optimiser, learning the ways of the min/max, I read things a lot when I worked at ubisoft and my project was a pile of crap called farcry 2 and we couldnt get into god mode fast enough before the spawnpoint surrounded by 30 armed soldiers killed us.

One of the threads I read, back in 339, was a thread about a DM that was calling for help on how to nerf the soulknife.

You heard me.

That Dm called out in a pleading voice on the ''what's a GM to do'' thread, and said that a soulknife 3 had killed his entire party of level 18 characters.  That level 3 soulknife, a new PC, had Coup de Graced the entire party, for some unknown reason, and the dm called for help on how to nerf this overpowered class who had, quote, ''hidden weapons of doom''

Now everyone thought this was a joke.

and then the Dm added that it wasn't and he was REALLY looking for help.

Now the vague memory of that thread, years later, came back to me in a moment of sleep deprived hysterical laughter with my friends, and I told it to them, and we laughed so hard, it has now become an inside joke.

Now I spent several hours searching for that thread based on the vague memory i have of it, and came up with nothing.

Can someone help me in that search?

Please?

I want to nerf soulknives, i mean, they have hidden weapons, it's OVERPOWERED!!!

I remember seeing (and laughing) at that thread too.  I've got a feeling it has been lost into the archives of 339.
I am constantly amazed by how many DM's ban Tomb of Battle.  The book doesn't even exist!

Why would you even do this? It hurts my eyes and looks like you ate your keyboard before suffering an attack of explosive diarrhea.

If using Genesis to hide your phylactry, set it at -300 degrees farenheit.  See how do-gooders fare with a liquid atmosphere.

Wow... That's astonishing. I wish I'd seen that thread. :D That sounds even better than the Lightning Warrior.

A couple of water benders, a dike, a flaming arrow, and a few barrels of blasting jelly?

Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.
...thanks

Or the lord of the dance build.

I hope someone can find it if it has even survived this long.

Lord of the Dance... I think it was basically combining Duskblade with Otto's Irresistible Dance. Shenanigans may have been involved to get into Sublime Chord.

edit: or maybe it was Chameleon instead

No it was the on that involved getting a preform (dance) to basically everything the character ever wanted to do. I mentioned it as comparison to the potential humor value of the thread mentioned in the original post.

Yah, my particular contribution to the lord of the dance build was giving him one level of urban ranger, and giving him the favored in guild (New Olam) from city of splendor waterdeep, thus allowing him to track with his perform (dance) check.

....

we should find that one too....

I concur but it was in the 339 archives the last time I saw it and we all know what happend to those recently, so the only place to find it would be other archive websites. Or we could just try recreating in a new thread.

Takes a while to load, but http://web.archive.org/web/20080408073639/http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=979511 gets you the basics of that thread.

Now if only we could get the URL for the OP thread...

I really need to see that thread, just for sentimental reasons.  I played a soul knife once, long before I learned of character optimization.  The only reason I didn't suck was because no one else knew what they were doing.  I was more effective than the Druid.
DM: The iron door is enchanted with a powerful anti-magic barrier.
Zavy: The door itself?
DM: Yes.
Zavy: I get acid flasks and a pry bar.  I just found myself a new tower shield.
