Need advice RE: Bug Hunt adventure.
« on: December 10, 2009, 07:06:19 PM »
I'm looking to run a classic bug hunt with Kythons from BoVD. The problem is the CR range. I want it to be a complete adventure that starts at "We haven't heard from Punkburg recently, you guys're going to go check it out because you're expendable murderous hobos." all the way through "and you've killed the queen."

To make it more like a xenomorph infestation I've written up a facehugger analogue and a bunch of quasi-templates that give kythons special shit based on what they hatch out of.

this means they're going to range from swarms of CR 1 to a burly brawl with a CR 13. I'm looking at three characters, may add in an npc to just bring it up to the standard four. Fuck, maybe he'll be a warforged named bishop...

I'd really rather have them start at a lowish level, I was thinking 3, but then EXP will have to be handed out like crazy (or levels arbitrarily given), any suggestion?

Figure I should also have people with more knowledge look at what I've written up to make sure I'm not underestimating challenges.

Implanter Kython

Implant As Red Slaad

Kython Weaponry an implanter has a 5% chance to possess Kython Weaponry, within reason (no bone blades, bone shard crossbows or acid spitters, but most of the rest is fine)

Grappling's What I Do Dex instead of Str to Grapple, no penalty due to size, add half the number as a bonus instead.

Skills +6 racial to jump, +8 racial to climb

This is relevant to my interests.
Kythons look to be very close to tyranids, actually.

There's Mindshredders in MM3, which might be used to fill gaps, then MM... 4 or 5, had this race of demonic insects going from CR 1 to 4, I believe.

Frankly, I haven't found a completely satisfying infestation myself, yet, for a Zerg/Vord/'Nid war campaign game.
