Marlowe laughs uneasily, but stops quickly, apparently unsure whether Raoul is joking or not.

Cade nods to Raoul. "There is no reason to believe there are nearly as many fiends left in the actual ruins, seeing as how there's nothing left for them there. To my recollection, many were driven off after the final battle by regrouped survivors, but the city was never quite reclaimed. It has been inhabited by monsters and pillaged by fortune-seekers who are looking for wonders from the times now lost. There may still be some, perhaps seeking powerful artifacts to protect themselves from the kobold's destruction, whether they know him as the source or not."

Cade shifted his stance slightly.

"They would be foolish to do so, of course. Riches though it may still contain, the fallen City of Song holds more danger than sanctuary. Still, it's our best bet for a starting place. I don't expect to meet with any demons in the ruins, though if there are any, don't expect it to be easy to fool them. Not all demons are created equally, and would just as soon kill one of their own as any devil. Speaking of which, the ruins are more likely home to devils, cults, and perhaps even some dragons, though most likely we'll have to look out for Drow." Cade morphs his shape into that of a drow as he says this.

"There will be no friends where we tread."
Knowledge: History
1d20(15)+7=22

I tried to limit what Cade knows of the ruins to what level of familiarity is given on table 8-1 (pg. 129) of Lost Empires of Faerun, based on the above check. It gives a handy guide to Knowledge: History checks for how much anyone knows about Cormanthyr at large. According to my roll, which luckily was pretty good, he is privy to Uncommon, obscure knowledge (up to and including being able to identify the tomb of a mid-level noble in Myth Drannor), but not Rare knowledge (such as the exact conditions that led to the freeing of the three Nycaloths who raised up the Army of Darkness that sieged the city).
Great, Venn. You probably know more about it than I do. ;)

Ok, so you're all heading off walking, then? You're about 100 miles Southeast of Teflamm. You could try to find passage on a boat across the Sea of Fallen Stars there, or bypass the city and instead turn North and skirt along the West side of the Forest of Lethyr.

If any of you know anything about local affairs (Know: Local DC 10, can be untrained), you'll know that there is some kind of supernatural plague in the Rawlinswood (a bit further north, across the Great Dale) that transforms its victims into ravenous monsters, and some of them into undead. Those infected spread the infection through their attacks. It had so far been contained to that forest mostly, but who knows how the current affairs have affected that, if at all.

"The sun's your biggest problem? Really? I like it better without light..." Ris-Janna regards the big monk with a sceptically raised eyebrow that seems to say "what a crybaby". When he continues, it slips into a slightly annoyed "what a ham"-look.
"Anyway... I don't really want to have anything to do with demons... at all."
Xuuvosic shakes his head with an unpleasant grin at Ris-Janna's bit of irony, but then walks off as discussion and argument break out. He walks over to a wagon full of over-sized chests and opens the latches. Moments later, a varied group of sepulchral figures rise from the chests. Two of the creatures, one that looks like a great living cloak, and the other an eerily misshapen woman with bat-wings, take to the air. The others shadow Xuuvosic on foot as he returns to the party. The Choker's odd octopus dance of a walk, is slow and measured, affording him a chance to catch the last few exchanges before speaking himself, "You mortals are some crazy motherfuckers. All hot to get eaten in some ruins thousands of miles away that've been picked over for centuries. As I was saying, the god damned plan is go to Teflamm and twist some fucking arms until we have something other than bullshit to go on. Does anyone have a problem with that? Because I think my friends really want to hear one of y'all's cute fucking ideas."

Changing back to Human shape, Cade regards Xuuvosic as though he's heard the tone in his voice before and is not nearly as phased by it as he once may have been. "Look, you specifically asked for ideas where to look. If you were just going to tell us, why bother asking?" Cade returns his gaze to the others standing around.

"Telflamm is just as good a place to start as any, and it's close. If we don't get any clues there, then we may as well move on to the ruins as planned. That may also give us ready and nearby access to an entrance into the Underdark from there, if so our path leads. One bit of warning, however. When we move on from Telflamm, I urge that we not pass through the Rawlinswood to the north. There's a fell taint within that wood, and we'd be smart to avoid it if we can. Better to charter a boat across the Sea of Fallen Stars, and it'll be right there anyway, with Telflamm as the only effective port in the area anyway."

"Took the words right out of my mouth. And the plan was to check out what was nearest anyway. No need to get your knickers in a twist, fish-breath." Raoul smirked. "You also made two basic mistakes: one is to assume I'm mortal. The second is to presume I take kindly to threats. I'd appreciate a modicum of what passes for respect if we're going to work together. Don't like it? Them's the breaks."

It takes a moment to realize that the horrific sound coming from Xuuvosic is laughter, "That ain't fish you're smellin'. Look, you'd still be a statue if I thought you didn't have the potential to earn some respect. And if the low down in Teflamm points to Myth Drannor, fuck it. We'll hop a boat. See, I can be a reasonable motherfucker. So let's get this shit on the road."

"...Anyway, you guys talk too much... If we've already got a plan... there's no point in spouting more hot air instead of getting moving." In order to stave off (or perhaps demonstrate) her boredom as the others talk it up, she's started balancing a dagger on the tip of her right index finger, and is just about to place a second dagger on the pommel of the first. "Lead the way, octopus with teeth... for all I know, Telflamm might be five miles west and upside down from where it was when I last went there."

"Hey, glad to know you're not fond of pushovers." Raoul commented at Xuuvosic's reply. A faint line of a grin traced his lips, as it seemed for the first time he appeared to enjoy the company. At Ris-janna's comment he grins wickedly. "But I guess the knickers and the twist comment bit fits her better, doesn't it? Don't entice the soulsucker in me, dear. We tend to like 'em feisty." He flashed a smile that was somewhere between creepy and teasing, yet to anyone but a woman, would have seemed to tend more towards the former. Damn those devilish good looks!

Teflamm didn't exist when you were petrified. :D
Ok, as far as I can tell, Ris-Janna, Cade, Marlowe, and Xuusovic all are now no longer visible (Rings of Darkhidden), and Marlowe can't see at all (no Darkvision, and no light sources out). Sound right?

@Bozwevial
If you want to retool somehow (gear, spells, etc) to get a source of Darkvision, that's ok Boz. People are still working on their characters. You could always let Xuusovic turn you into a ghoul or vampire, I guess. ;)
Cade nods to the others and places his ring back on his hand, once again seeming to disappear to anyone able to see in the dark.

"Agreed, let's be off at once. There are answers somewhere out there, it's time to find them!"

You all travel for about four days, and see no living creatures except a few wild animals, and even those appear half crazed and flee as soon as they notice you. The sun does not rise again, but the moon still passes overhead allowing you to measure the passing of days. You pass by several burnt down farm houses and one village that's been destroyed. There are a few bodies in various stages of decay at each location, but no survivors. The landscape looks like the bleak aftermath of a warzone. For those of you who've seen what happens when bloodwar skirmishes pass through mortal villages in the lower planes, this reminds you of that. Occasionally you hear screams in the distance, and a few of them seem unnatural.

You feel a sense of relief as you approach the city. A ring of bright lanterns has been erected on the tops of poles all around it, leaving circle of light that those approaching it have to pass through. On the other side of that bright ring of illumination, you can make out the silhouette of a wall that's evidently been recently erected (it wasn't here when those of you passed through here recently).

Make spot and listen checks if you want, and let me know how you're approaching and anything you want to do before you approach.
Listen and Spot checks are both at +12, but Invisible Castle's down.
Marlowe rubs his hands together thoughtfully. "Does, mhm, anyone have any suggestions?" For what seems like the millionth time, he shakes the dust off his shoes, despite the fact that none ever sticks, whether due to the material or some form of magic.
I've been travelling in my Human form to avoid arousing suspicion.

Spot and Listen checks are both at +8, and can be rolled either by the DM or we can wait for IC to come back up.
Cade speaks up, looking over in Marlowe's direction. "I think our best bet is to come across as least threatening as possible. We don't want them getting anxious on our account. We also don't want them asking us to help them with any problems, if possible. We've got plenty of our own to deal with, and most likely we couldn't help them any more with their requests anyway."

"I'm with the well-dressed square... I don't mind staying outside... if you want to get in without anyone noticing, though..." Ris-Janna, who has stayed more or less silent since she threatened to put a literal twist in Raoul's knickers after his comment four days ago, seems less than thrilled to go into a lit town, and, gods forbid, meet people. Instead, she proposes in her usual slow, hesitating voice, "...I guess I could do that. Best way to avoid being asked to do stuff is to not be noticed. Besdies, I don't know if they'd let the octopus with teeth in..."
RJ has a +10 to Spot and Listen, -1 to Spot in bright light.
"You kids are all so quaintly shy. It's adorable." Raoul offered with a smirk, something he'd shown a few days back when replying in kind to Ris-janna that he wouldn't mind a twist in his knickers as long as she took care of whatever spilled out. "I guess that leaves me and mister congeniality to grab whatever information we can, doesn't it?" He pointed to Xuuvosic.
