"It's like a permanent funeral in here. But they're missing the coffee." Raoul remarks once he sees the general mood of the city.

"There's coffee. Its fucking 20 gold a cup, but there's coffee."
Given that ghouls can actually be made from corpses, is it too late to hang on to the barghest and raise him. In terms of dealing with the guards, I'd let them examine him but insist on leaving him outside with the minions. Then if teleporting in and out of the city doesn't seem to be a problem, I'll bring them all in.

No, it's not too late. I thought you'd probably have chucked his body into the pit before you guys buggered off. Teleporting in and out doesn't seem to be a problem. Finding an unoccupied room at an Inn might be... but with enough gold, you can buy anything... except high end magic items. :D

If you're going to have a bunch of guys (or even just a few) working on installing a scaffold into the pit, you of course won't be able to use it to hide/move your undead horde, though. The best offer you get on building the scaffolding is 1 full day of work, and that's with 10 men working on it. Mostly they want food and water for pay, but will take whatever else you'll give them.

The kobold also seems quite interested in your new rug at the inspection, and asks how much you'd take for it.
Cade wanders in with the rest of the group, paying no attention to their quips about the state of the city.

He thinks aloud, "So... what now?"

"This hole would suck half as much if it had half as many torches. How about we steal some of them?" Ris-Janna has limited herself to skulking and sulking in the shadows, peeved at the relative prevalence of light in the city's streets.
She'll also move around in the darker alleys out of boredom, in case there's anything interesting going on that doesn't require human(oid) interaction to find out. :D
"If there are any preparations we require to visit the Underdark, that would of course be our first priority. I suggest we also try and learn of any unfolding events that may influence our course of action." Marlowe has been keeping an eye out for Ris-Janna throughout their visit, as though he's worried she'll wander off and get killed.

Rather than have the kobold poke further into his business, Xuuvosic sells him the rug. Once in the city, X picks up a replacement tarp and rents an entire out of the way inn. If any of the staff are unduly curious, he'll have Shlushech Dominate them. Once settled, he'll raise, equip, and interrogate the barghest (what's his name?).  With his lackeys all concealing their inhuman nature with Hat of Disguise items, he'll hire a work crew to start on the scaffolding. Assuming, all the above goes smoothly, X will indulge in an extended bout of carousing, seeking information on recent events as he enjoys himself (Gather Info (1d20+19=21), Gather Info retry (1d20+19=26), Gather Info second retry (1d20+19=25)).

The kobold pulls out a small monocle, and after examining the rug with it for some time, says "Ok, I'll trade this carriage for the carpet if you want. Feel free to examine it, but I'll hold onto the carpet if you want to take it for a ride."

He pulls out a small wooden figurine of what looks like a carriage or stagecoach. When he places it on the ground and speaks a word in draconic, it turns into a full sized carriage complete with four translucent steeds harnessed to it. Their reins hang in the air over the driver's seat, as if held by invisible hands.
No one said anything about checking the "rug" to see if it was magical, even after I repeatedly mentioned how nice it was, and that it had a scene of clouds over an arabic looking landscape. Luckily for you... the kobold isn't just good... he's freakin' Exalted. So he won't even try to rip you off.  :lmao

The carriage is a version of this, with an upgraded caster level (14th) so that it gets full-blown flight.

What kind of info are you looking for exactly? Just about current happenings? Local gossip? Or are you specifically asking questions about Pun-Pun?

Edit: You do hear that supposedly Pun-Pun killed the sun god. The prayers of his clerics have since went unanswered, and the sun no longer rising is a direct result of his death.

You also hear that there have been plagues of undead sweeping across the lands to the west, across the sea of fallen stars, and that most of the smaller towns have probably fallen to them already, as well as at least a couple of larger ones (one of which your recognize as the place where you retrieved the "rug" from. The incorporeals seem to be the worst, as they are normally kept at bay by the sun. Given that anyone killed by them rises as one themselves, even what might be a small "infestation" of them can consume an entire town if left unchecked. They are also harder to totally wipe out, as they can hide inside of objects and even the ground if someone powerful comes along to try and get rid of them.
Raoul, on the other hand, seems to be content with a lonely pasttime - brooding, specifically. Sure, he could go charming young wenches and then contaminating them with his evil seed (read: knocking them up), but that's something he could do at any. Freaking. Time.

To those with a meticulous eye, it seems he's quite puzzled about something despite meager efforts to hide it. Something didn't fit, and he intended to find out what.

Mostly current happenings. But if he can find out anything more about Pun-Pun without asking that would be bonus.

OOC: The carriage sounds way cool. I'll make the trade.

You just hear what I posted above, then. And nothing bad happens to you.  :smirk
Both you and the kobold seem happy about your new toys, and he even comes out from behind his little hiding place to take the carpet from you personally.

Cade looks over at the Kobold as he makes the trade with Xuuvosic and says, nonchalantly, "Well, it has seemed that you've already surmised that I am travelling under disguise. Perhaps you wouldn't mind if I did away with this old man's facade?"
Just planning to switch to the normal Human form, not the demonic one. ;)
"That depends on what you look like... Don't go scaring people in town now, ok? The people here have enough to be afraid of without thinking I'm letting random monsters walk right through the gates.

You guys have convinced me that at least you're capable of being reasonable about things, despite who or what you might be. I still won't be putting you down on my holiday gift list, though.
" The kobold chuckles at his own joke as he looks over the carpet.

Cade shifts into his normal human form, activating his shiftweave clothing as well, returning to the flashy robes her bore before. Once again bearing the form of a beautiful person, Cade appears as though a weight has been lifted from his shoulders, and his natural confidence shines through almost as much as the shine of his pearly-whites.
Would a UMD check allow me to figure it (the rug's command word) out? Or would that be spellcraft? I'm not saying I'd give it to him right away; I'd probably consult with the group on if we should leverage a price for it. :D
The kobold nods approvingly at Cade's new form, and then takes off his monocle and speaks another word in the arcane tongue of dragons. At this command, the carpet lifts off the ground with him standing on it and he begins to fly around over the city. As he flies away he says "You guys stay out of trouble now."
I just realized that Identify actually gives you the command word, and he'd already used his artificer's monocle to identify it.
"I somehow doubt that." Raoul points enigmatically at the kobold's joke.

"Well, it's prep time. Xuuvosic, perhaps you'd care to replace your lost minion?"

"Yeah, yeah I'm on that shit. You motherfuckers might not like it, but I'm on it." Once they are well away from the guard post he adds, "Anyway, the barghest better have learned some respect while he's been dead. That or he'll have to learn the really hard way."
