No, dude, not the entire dome. Just the part that got a Wall of Stone toppled over.
Quote from: Wall of Stone
This spell creates a wall of rock that merges into adjoining rock surfaces.
The entire thing is seamless, even the "new" part.

Doesn't it also need the entire surface it will cover to be free? If Cade merely kept his arm there he'd prevent the spell from working altogether.

Well, I've got two options right now: Turn into an avarial/use a cloaker and fly up where the wall of stone wouldn't reach, and burst a hole out the dome up higher and we airlift everyone through that, or I hop out the other side and take my chances out in the battlefield.
If nothing else, RJ could probably reliably jump out along with Cade, as she's all the way up in the initiative order and has a good Ref save.

Nope. You can shape it however you want, and even encase people in it. They get a Reflex save to avoid it by moving out of the way. It doesn't say anything about disrupting the spell if they're in the way. Wall of Ice has that line, not Wall of Stone. Presumably you could encase them in a skin-tight mold of rock if they failed the save...

The new wall is just a bit further out than the old one was, though, because Cade's hand was in the way when it was forming. So there is a little hand-sized pocket inside the "new" section of wall that is outside the Dead Magic Zone.

The Wall of Stone doesn't have to be on the ground. As long as it ties into existing stone, they can put it wherever they want, including on top of the dome.

I hope you guys aren't getting too frustrated, or feeling like I'm trying to just screw you over or power trip. I came up with this by deciding what the conditions would be around the portal (dead magic zone, in the middle of a giant battle), the purpose of the portal (to let the defenders of Myth Drannor enlist future aid, indefinitely, until they eventually win), and how the demons would react to it to try and minimize its impact. Being the devious and cruel bastards that they are, instead of fight a potentially limitless number of "defenders" from the future, the demons instead capped the thing off like Chernobyl with Walls of Stone, bored some holes in it, and then opened a Gate to the biggest hellwasp nest they could find, and invited the wasps to go chow down on the helpless fools pouring out of the portal into their newly made death trap. They also are naturally monitoring the situation to try and ensure that none of them escape, or if they do that they are handled before they can destroy the trap and let all the other guys escape from it.

There are ways for you guys to deal with it, and I think you're actually doing pretty well. The cloakers Moan being Ex was something I'd forgotten about. That helps out tremendously. I know it's been frustrating being stuck in a DMZ for so long. Sorry about that. After this, I promise I won't do that again. OK?

Hmm... Who's our social wiz? (Raoul?) Maybe if we can convince the demons we're actually coming as reinforcements for them...

Alternatively, we seem to be relatively safe from the wasps now, although that dragon will be a problem. If we can make a DMZ-free alcove that's big enough (there's a Cade's-hand-sized one now), we should be able to just teleport out.

Well, I wouldn't expect to never encounter a DMZ or AMF situation again, but I'd certainly like to not necessarily get trapped in them too often. :)

By the way, can I tell how thick the wall of stone supposedly is?

Also:
Quote from: Wall of Stone
The wall cannot be conjured so that it occupies the same space as a creature or another object.
By game standards, "space" would be the square(s) the creature or object is occupying, wouldn't it?

Fuuuuuuuuuck... I missed that... Isn't that kind of contradictory with this line from the spell?
Quote
It is possible, but difficult, to trap mobile opponents within or under a wall of stone, provided the wall is shaped so it can hold the creatures.
I guess you have to leave a 5' cube empty underneath it to trap a medium creature under it.

So the DMZ-free space in the new wall would actually have to be bigger than just Cade's hand. I fkn hate being restricted do measuring everything in cubes, though. So I'm still going to say it's only like a foot or two further out, but yeah there is now a little cubbyhole (like 2'x2') inside the wall/dome that is outside the DMZ.

Ooooh. What's Xuuvosic's Escape Artist mod? Maybe he or RJ could squeeze in that space and teleport us out with the Pit.

Xuuvosic is a small-sized creature. So he could certainly squeeze into the space, even without the check. The rules for "squeezing" are stupid, as are most D&D rules about movement, as they only assume movement on a 2d grid, and passing through a tight space briefly. I guess RJ could squeeze into the space, but I'm going to say she'd need to make a DC 30 Escape Artist check to do so. That's the only DC listed for squeezing into a tight space...

I could always ready an action to try and slip through without tipping off whatever's outside. We wouldn't be putting our primary method of escaping in danger that way.

Could multiple people slip through at once if they both made their saves?

Edit: Somehow the refresh missed almost a page of posts. Apparently we have a cubby now.

Well, according to the text for Enveloping pit, the opening can be as small as 1 ft x 1 ft if it's laid flat while folded up. Could we make it 2 x 2, then have at least some people get in, in the meantime?

Also, the text for trapping people with a Wall of Stone would, presumably, be for creating a stone box around them while they're moving. Keep in mind, the name of the spell is *wall* of stone, and the level of detail one can achieve is fairly crude and limited to allow "crenellations, battlements, and so forth" which, historically, are pretty geometric in shape.

Multiple people could rush through at once just by using readied actions and beating whoever is throwing up the walls of stone on initiative. They wouldn't even need to make the save.

But yeah, there is a little cubby now. So Xuuvosic can abandon you all to certain death now, if he feels like it. ;)

Yes, that could work, but unless you punch out a bigger "cubby", those of you who are medium sized will have to make DC 30 Escape Artist checks to squeeze into it. Anyone larger than that won't be able to at all. Small creatures won't need a check.

You know, the idea that we're coming as reinforcements is actually a good one. It's probably a good thing Raoul wasn't in a position of authority as of the battle, or we'd risk him being called to assess that possibility.  :P

Wait. The gate to the Hellwasp nest is supposed to still be open? That could be our ticket out.

Follow my idea: if we can use the moans to keep the Hellwasps away near the Gate, we can then either A) cross over to the other side, if the Gate isn't one-way, or B) dispel it and use the deliciously magic-filled space to open up the pit, leap in, and then have Cade bust out with the pit in one arm and Xuuvosic nearby.

Alternatively, if we can just punch enough of a magic-filled zone out, we can use the pit and force our way out.

*sigh* So in the end, like every problem in D&D, we gotta work it with magic.

Plus I don't think the Gate is in the stone structure, since the dead magic zone is in the way. So we'd have to break out in front of the balor, and it would be difficult to kill one of those if it weren't using Tome material. So either we count on our bluff holding up to the scrutiny and generosity of demons or we teleport the hell out of here.
