Well, damn. That's a bit more problematic.

I think our best option then is for Cade to switch on his monkey molestation stance and plow through the wall Kool-Aid Man style.

I think we're better off assuming the past HAS no DMZ. If I had to guess, I'd say that the energy that powers the portal has to be coming from SOMEWHERE. The past is our better option in that case.

Oh there is definitely a DMZ in the "past". That was in my first post in this encounter thread. A Spellcraft (or Knowledge: Arcana) check could potentially give you some more insight into the DMZ and/or portal. The DC would be 30, though...

Damnations.

Welp, unless the tome Aasimar have some sort of extraordinary DR I don't know about, Raoul is completely fucked in this situation. Couple more rounds of Hellwasp flesh-raping and he's done for. It's a swarm, so he can't even pretend he's dead, either.

Spellcraft and Know: Arcana checks, just in case (1d20+ 12=20, 1d20+16=36)

BOOYAH! I guess I know... something.
Gendou Ikari is basically Gregory House in Kaminashades. This is FACT.

Oh, right, I have some planar knowledge. They are called hellwasps, after all.

@Raoul:

This portal is by far the most powerful spell effect Raoul has ever seen... It seems to be a permanent, one-way portal through time, as he of course knew before jumping through it. The surprising thing is that instead of being made into an item, as is typical with permanent portals, this is just a free-standing effect, as if it were created by a spell. You expect that the spell is drawing on so much magical energy just to continue to function, that it is actually causing the dead-magic zone around it. There simply is no more magical energy to be tapped nearby it, because the portal is using every possible "drop" that's available.

You wonder if a moral being could ever create something that powerful, or even any outsider you've heard of, other than a deity. You've heard of custom dweomers beyond the kin of normal mortal magic which can involve tremendous sacrifices on the part of the casters. It might be possible, in theory, to create something like this effect using one of those, but the cost to the caster would be immense... at least his life, and maybe his very soul. Or maybe even the lives and/or souls of a great many sacrifices...

Raoul also observes that this side of the portal seems to be "stationary" in time, while the other side "ages" normally. That is, no matter at what time-point creatures go into the portal in the "future", they all seem to be coming out at pretty much this exact time in the past, hence why there are so many very fresh bodies here... These people all just came out of the portal in the last few minutes or seconds (and then died horribly almost immediately...). There is probably a bit of "drag" for the time the portal is fixed at in the past, otherwise they'd have all came out at exactly the same time, which would have been... messy. He estimates that this end of the portal probably "ages" less than a minute for every 100 years that passes. Which means that in the "future", no one has entered the portal for years after you guys did (since no one has came out after you).

@Marlowe:

He knows everything in their stat block. It just looks like there is a crazy huge swarm of hellwasps (game-mechanically it is a bunch of different, individual swarms, of course). Their stats are the same as the ones in the SRD. Which basically means you guys are fucked if you can't get out of here fairly quickly, since you have no means to harm them at all in a DMZ. ;) You've heard of a layer of the Abyss that is basically just filled with demonic insects and insect-like demons, with hives of these things the size of small mountains. Perhaps someone opened a Gate to one of those nearby...

edit: and with that kids, I'm off to bed. have fun storming the castle! :D

If I do plow through the wall, the vampires are screwed, aren't they? Until we get out of the DMZ, they can't really jump in a bag of holding, either.

Looks like the Tome vampire is significantly less susceptible to sunlight than the core ones. What a pity.  :smirk

I edited the first post in the encounter thread to include initiative. Not including Xuuvosic's minions, it is RJ, Cade, Xuuvosic, Marlowe, the swarms, and then Raoul. We'll just start over at the top of the initiative order, since this is a new encounter (and I don't remember who went last in the other one...).

They still take 2d6 damage and are staggered, meaning they can easily get stuck out in the light and then burn to re-death. It just takes longer. If they're at high enough health, though, we can have them stagger out of the DMZ as quickly as possible and immediately hop into the bag, possibly with someone in there ready to heal them or what-not.

I'm guessing there's no other way out of this thing--it looks like someone erected it around the portal to negate the reinforcements. Probably the demons, judging by the hellwasps filling it.

Waiting on you guys... TBH I expected you'd just have giga-monk punch the sides out, although there are a couple other ways I could think of that you might try getting out of this... and you guys are pretty creative sometimes. I thought you might surprise me. :P

Well, I had thought of climbing out the holes in the top before you pointed out they were too small. I have to put the rope and grappling hook to some use, you know. :P That said, if we smash a hole in the side, the hellwasps escaping might cover our own escape. All things considered, since none of us has any ranks in Climb, it's probably best we aren't going out the top.

The hellwasps can fly through the existing holes, if they want to "escape".  ;)

Really? How big is a single hellwasp again?

...ah, thumb-sized. So they'd have no trouble getting out if they wanted. I don't know why I thought they were fist-sized.

I'd have a much easier time of punching through the wall if I were my normal size, but that might take too long. :P

I don't suppose all the dead people on the floor provide ample hiding opportunity from the wasps? If not, I think I'll go ahead and delay for Cade to do the bruiser thing.

EDIT: Well, that's what I get for keeping the reply window open for hours while I do other stuff.

Are you guys waiting on me? Are you just going to wait to do anything till Cade punches through the wall? Any readied actions or whatever?

Since we're still in the DMZ, there's not much most of the group can ready except to run once the wall comes down, even considering that there may be a whole lot worse than hellwasps outside. We might want to find out how those two others found themselves trapped in here though.

Well, I can hide and keep an eye out for things to shoot. :P So I'll be doing that once we break through so I'm not an immediate target.

I actually made a set of stealth rolls earlier that I never wound up using for whatever reason (probably because I made them before the Fortitude saves, and you can't really sneak while nauseated). Would you prefer me to use those or roll new ones?

Just use those. I think nothing actually prevents you from sneaking while nauseated, does it? You don't have to be explicitly blowing chunks to count as nauseated. :P

I guess we'll just skip to Cade breaking the wall, then.

I figured sneaking around would involve concentration of some sort, but hey. I'll go ahead and add those rolls.
