You know that instantaneous conjuration spells (like an Orb of X) can go into AMFs, right? :p

Funny, I always figured AMF =/= DMZ.

Which, acronym-wise, is true.

ALRIGHT WHO'S IMMUNE TO POISON BY NONMAGICAL MEANS
What kind of poison? I'm immune to drow poison, black lotus extract, blue whinnis, carrion crawler brain juice, dragon bile, and oil of taggit.

Not immune, but I have a decent Fort save, I guess.
It's all about vision and making reality conform to your vision. By dropping a fucking house on it.

ALRIGHT WHO'S IMMUNE TO POISON BY NONMAGICAL MEANS

I could have sworn I was, but apparently I'm not. Funny how taking the Product of Infernal Dalliance feat gives you the fiendish subtype of your choice, thus resulting in poison immunity, but True Fiend levels spread fiend abilities out. In a way, the single feat makes you more of a True Fiend than the class. I may have to take the feat just for that fact alone.

The overpowered-ness of that feat is a common rant/argument at The Gaming Den.  :D

I can understand why. I could see if it was a scaling feat, like most of the combat or skill feats. Or if you just specifically got the abilities listed in the feat and didn't get the subtype, and just say the character is treated as a member of that variety of fiend.

But, I digress.  :D

You know Raoul can't see what's going on in there at all, right? He just hears some screams amidst the sounds of falling rubble. The building falling down on them and the monster popping out and attacking has all happened in like 2 or 3 seconds, and there is (non-magical) dust everywhere obscuring vision.

Anyway, unless someone has some way to interrupt the surprise round, the big beetle is going to get to finish its actions before you guys get to go. So I'm going to go ahead and conclude those, as I think everyone has rolled their saving throws, etc.

Fair enough, someone will have to be Raoul's eyes then. I just have one question.

Is Cloudkill flammable?

I don't think so. There is a spell called Caustic Mire that (IIRC) is basically like a Cloudkill that makes things burn more better:D I forget which book it was from, and/or if it's on the warmage spell list.

Sadly the lackeys are NOT immune to poison. The Frank&K unliving subtype is bare-bones compared to the standard undead type.

That's pretty amusing, isn't it? Poisoned undead.  :P Kidding aside, those undead subtypes are one of the things that I like the most about their rules. They address some of my biggest gripes against standard D&D types.

Yeah, it does make sense for vampires, and to a slightly lesser degree ghouls, to be vulnerable to poison. In many a vamp mythos they get sick if they ingest anything but blood. And ghouls are kind of similar for raw flesh. But poisoned blades? ... whatever, its all good. I agree that the standard undead type is problematic. And the Frank&K rules address that without over-complicating things.

It's Ris-Janna's turn, and the top of a new round. The bug's surprise round is over. The bug itself has retreated underground with Marlowe.

Okay, I presume the bug is grappling Marlowe. Is it fully grappling him (thus losing its Dex bonus to AC), or is it doing that single-limb grappling thing? Also, I assume whatever tunnel it's retreating to is still covered by the DMZ. I guess since it actually got the drop on us rather than vice versa, there's not much to do other than just going in and ganking its ass. Good thing any gaze attacks won't work in a DMZ either.

If it leaves the DMZ, my best bet is probably to use my Anklet of Translocation. If it doesn't, I suppose I'll have to hope I win a grapple check.

You don't know. :P It's not all that huge (about 10' long), so you guess it's probably "fully" grappling him.

Burrow

A creature with a burrow speed can tunnel through dirt, but not through rock unless the descriptive text says otherwise. Creatures cannot charge or run while burrowing. Most burrowing creatures do not leave behind tunnels other creatures can use (either because the material they tunnel through fills in behind them or because they do not actually dislocate any material when burrowing); see the individual creature descriptions for details.
There is no tunnel. The ground is torn up where it retreated, but any tunnel collapsed behind it.

It's a dead magic zone, not an AMF. So it doesn't need LoE (my interpretation, anyway). Anyone with decent spellcraft and/or knowledge (arcane) would know this. So yes, you'd guess the creature is still within the DMZ, unless it has moved outside of it.

Okay, so... there's basically a lot of stone between it and us and we need something with a burrow speed to find the beastie. Uh... does any of X's minions have a burrow speed?

Unrelatedly, I think I'll just copy/paste HoV's buff list into a new thread, to avoid having to look for it all the time after this. CL 20 was assumed for each, if I recall.

The ground isn't stone here. There is some stone lying on top of the ground, but the ground itself is just dirt. If you had a burrow speed, you could just dig down into the ground in any place not completely covered in rubble.

Nope none of the minions burrow. BTW, I take it the bug has a special ability that lets it whirlwind attack and move in a surprise round?

Oh, does mindsight need line of effect?
