Random note: I'm reading Frank and K's stuff and they have a tiefling without LA and with outsider type, so feel free to make use of that :P
As I said, that stuff goes through me first. Some of M_S's things got nerfed too.

My bad. I missed that somehow. I'll make sure to run something by you if I want to use it :D

So, after reading what Nunkuruji posted, I feel kinda screwed.  Diabolist does seem kinda sub-par, but it has great flavor for the campaign.  The only way I can see getting into that class would be a Transmuter, taking Spell Versatility, and turning a crappy Necro spell that I'll never use into a Trans spell, just to qualify.  Unless, of course, my DM allowed me taking the Magic domain at lvl 5, and saying that my "ability to cast" shriveling off a wand let me meet my pre-reqs.  Whatdya say, Tshern?  :flirt

So, barring either of those options, does anyone know a powerful evil-flavored caster PrC?  Or is there another way of getting a Necromancy spell on my list when its a prohibited school?

More thoughts...

The Imp

So after looking over the Familiar Handbook again, It seems that the familiar is keyed off your *character* level for most of the important things. So lets work with this.

HitDice - Count as equal to your character level. Great, can polymorph it into other nasty outsiders.
Attacks/Saves/HP - Based off your crappy wizard attack/saves/hp, meh...
Skills - If you can get Use Magic Device, that would be great. Your familiar could then UMD with your skill ranks. Maybe buy him a competence ring?
Special Abilities - these are keyed off of your Diabolist level, so natural armor bonus and spell resistance will be lacking.

Decent hide/move silently
Invisibility SLA!
Detect Magic SLA - snag an Artificer's Monocle (MIC) and all your identification needs are taken care of.

Ok, the Imp is pretty cool and flavorful.

However, you can still get this little guy just by taking the Planar Familiar feat (Planar Handbook)

I'm finding it hard to justify suggesting taking the PrC over even standard Wizard (bonus feats), unless the DM is willing to do some very cool things with the "your soul becomes property of a powerful devil".

I am afraid casting from items doesn't let you qualify.

Yeah, didn't think so, but it was worth a shot.  In other news, Diabolist sucks, so I'm not going with it.  Gotta do more perusing, and find a build that seems suitable for the campaign.

While it's off track from the Wizard/MaSpec

Fiend-Blooded PrC from Heroes of Horror is worth a look if you were to go the Sorcerer Route.
Still has that wholesome evil flavor.

I'm at a loss for what else to suggest, other than just being an evil aligned generic wiz/arcane-prc

Bear with me here, I don't have my books with me and this build is far from done, but at least I have a stub :P

So, coming into a game at 12th level, I'm thinking about playing a Wiz3/Master Specialist6/Diabolist2 (out of Book of Vile Darkness), going Focused Specialist into either Conj or Trans, and dropping Evo, Enchant, and Necro.  Stats can be 32 point buy, or rolled (but I don't have a roll yet).  I'm going to play a Tiefling, so at this level I'll have 7 feats (2 from flaws, although I haven't found a 2nd flaw that seems acceptable yet [NonCombatant is 1st])

This gives me CL 12th, lets me drop my familiar for something else and still get an Imp later (which is cool, since we're playing in Hell and I'm a Tiefling), plus other goodies.  My question(s) to the collective intelligence out there are, How Optimal is this, are there ways to make it better, and are there any neat tricks I should know about?

Diabolist is pretty mediocre.  Even master specialist is only ok unless you are taking it for a specific reason.  The tainted Scholar's 1st level abilities are downright broken, depending on where you want to end up on the power scale.

Can you use Frank and K's stuff?  They have some awesome evil-flavored classes for casters.  A vile version of a saint or a half fiend (at +2LA) might be worth the LA if it is going to be a long game.

Very little says evil like the Mother Cyst feat.

The 2 flaws make me think of a shadowcraft mage.

What kind of mage do you want?  Summoner?  Battlefield controlling conjurer?  Utility?

Best,
David
Some Cool Quotes:  [spoiler]
Quote from: unknown
Non-PC activities like out of combat healing should be left to wands and NPCs. It's not fun to play a walking wand of CLW. Likewise, being a combat wall is not a viable PC role. A Wall of Force could do that.

-Sort of, but you left out the important note that a Wall of Force does it better.

Quote from: Runestar / skydragonknight
The most powerful character is the one that you actually get to play.

Quote from: Operation Shoestring
I often have to remind people not to underrate divination.  The ability to effectively metagame without actually metagaming beats the ability to set things on fire more times than not.

After even more searching around, I'm looking at a Malconvoker, since I was planning on a Conjurer anyway.  Dunno if I really want to keep all the paperwork for a Summoner, though.  Where's the Mother Cyst feat?  What's it do?

Mother cyst is in Libris Mortis as for malconvoker I second it.  In fact back on the wizards boards someone posted a thread called mastering he malconvoker it was lovely.  Per chance a brief dip into nar demon binder out of I want to say forgotten realms unapproachable east?
There is a difference between being uninformed and being stupid.  When presented with conflicting information the uninformed man admits he's wrong and takes it in stride he may even be happy to find the truth.  The stupid man will rant and rave despite the fact he is obviously wrong.  Dont be stupid

I just acquired Feindform, from the Spell Compendium. Lets you turn into a bunch of crap, but the good thing it does is let you count as an outsider AND use all the abilities of the stuff you turn into. Enter Bloodbag Imp. Its got some goofy healing crap, and its got standard Imp stuff-including Polymorph into a medium size sumthing.
So Feindform is Polymorph into a Medium size outsider of your choice.5th level S/W spell.
