simply unfold 4 of them all the way and place them on the bottom walls.  do the same thing in the ones to placed.  hire a druid to fill it with plant life, and then get an undead small sized bard who plays the pan pipes and has a few minor teleportation abilities.  now have him hide in random different pits, and swap around if someone gets too close.

and This http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Dt3QWsJ0Bs is the song he plays.

oh yeah, I went there.

I got as far as like the 10th post or so. as soon as I seen Kobolds squeezing in and out of 1 foot holes in a multihole environment I knew I had to add something.

Picture this; you're a Dy Lich, you need to hide something on another plane but figure some PC is probably going to find it anyway. What do you do?
1. Fill a box with pits and one placatory and shake it until only one is left creating one of the most complex search and find the doorway mazes ever.
2. Create a long 'hallway' that is really multiple pits and place a placatory at then end. When the PCs reach the end just roll up the exit.

Then place the object you want to hide in your own personal Search DC 50 chest in your personal study, and leave the PC's some clues that the object is in the afforementionned castle filled with holes.  Or holes filled with castles...  Watch them go mad, as you activate the object and enslave the world.

You could probably keep your Acorn of Far Travel oak trees in this.

Want to double the apparent size of the Enveloping Pit, have an artificer add a hem of Reduce Person on the edge of it, now when you go in the hole your size reduces by one size category for the duration of the stay in the pit. I priced it out at +2000 gp with the Artificer's ability to make items at reduced caster level. (Spell Level 1 * Caster Level .5 * 2000gp for continuous use * 2 for duration adjustment) = +2000 gp Market Cost

My Gnomish Artificer the Tinkerer has one setup in the Hidden Bottom of his Masterwork Carriage, that is drawn by multiple Rod of Ropes instead of horses. :) Of course he has to have big bold signs that say "No bags of holding, Haversacks, or quivers of ehlonna beyond this point!"

fixed math. . .I think

a carriage drawn by rod of ropes. that sounds pretty interesting.. but how would it work?  the rops shoot out and lock onto the ground or what? also, what would the speed of said carriage be via RoR's?

You really don't need to go through all of those hoops to make it mobile. Greater Floating Disk is triple the minimum diameter required to open the Pit (you need at least 1ft). You just have someone camp near the open portal (the caster obviously) and have them guide it. Use a periscope.

I pictured the Carriage as firing multiple lines out at a time (made it with 4 but why stop there) and pulling it along at the indicated rate of 60ft per round for items of 1000lbs or less per hook. For added fun I built in the animated grappling hooks from Dungeonscape for an additional +6 on the use rope check to set the hooks, plus having animated dragon claws on the end of the up to 300ft cables is just cool.

It could easily be done on a tower shield, cart, or chariot. I had just pictured the Tinkerer as one of those travelling salesmen from the wild west and construct horses or an animated wagon were outside my price range.

Undead are quite cheap. A little air freshener and some barding, and no one will ever know the difference.  :p

Glue some gears and metal (lead) plates on it. With a decent bluff check, (s)he'll never know it's not a construct.

I suppose I could put it in the bottom of one of the Homonoculi, the one that looks like a chest and can hand you stuff (can't remember its name and don't have access to my books right now). Setup an unseen servant that can retrieve items for the chest and it should work the same way but have my tower inside it. And i'd have a traveler's chest that follows me around :)

That sounds pretty awesome.  :D Can you leave the chest open, so you can get out without having to rely on the Unseen Servant, and in the event that someone decides to smash your fancy chest?

Well I think with the Improved Homonculi feat you can give it a natural attack when you improve it's hit dice. . . :) as well as all kinds of other nifty abilities. Don't know that Swallow Whole is available. . .though it should be.
