Need a good photoshop program
« on: October 10, 2009, 05:33:34 AM »
Here are the criteria:

1.  Must be free.

2.  Must be linux-friendly.

3.  Must be able to do transparencies, because I've bought photo editing software that didn't have hat before, it seems that's a hard thing to do.

There is a version for Linux, IIRC... but GIMP doesn't use the same colors as Photoshop and some other editors... so depending on what you do with the image, it might not be as smooth/printer freindly...

It works better in Linux than in Windows in my experience.

I have GIMP.  It's clunky and never does what I tell it to do.

short of sporting an eye patch and peg leg i think GIMP is your best bet for free photo editing.  I know it is capable of almost everything Photoshop is but i have never learned how to use either of them.

I have both, but I've never really taken the time to learn how to do anything truly useful (like layers).

Are there any good GIMP tutorials out there?  I found a whole bunch at http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/, but I was curious if anyone could narrow that list down a bit.
