6 best Druid spells! Hoooi!Limitaions!
« on: October 02, 2009, 07:15:01 PM »
I just got a message from my DM to limit my out-of-SRD-spells to 6.
Yes thats right. 6 none-core spells...
And I need help!
I'm building an "all purpose" lvl 16 Druid.
I plan to do combat with Draconic wild shape Young Adult Shadow Dragon (AC29)
Equipment:
Monks belt
wildling clasp
Bracers of armour
Meta Rod (Quicken 6)
Periap of Wisdom
Ring of Spellturning

Stats:
STR:9
DEX:10
CON:18
INT:16 (+1 middle age)
WIS:28 (+1middle age +6 periap of Wis)
CHA:12 (+1middle age)

Feats:
1.Spell focus Conj.
1.Augmented summoning
3.Empower Spell
6.Natural Spell
9.Scent
12.Draconic Wld Shape
15. Wep focus Claws

Now.
All PHB spells are fine.
But I'm trying to find the 6 most practical spells from other sources.
Also I'm trying to find a usefull; close to core;animal companion with prerequisites for "Venomfire"
I'm considering dire snake(MotW)unless something more practical comes to mind.

I don't mind the fact that I'm limited. That makes the challenge more interesting. The fun part is making the most of it.
Now this is my first private post ,and I've tried to be thorough. So don't hesitat to mention something I've forgot,
or give tips.

Hoping for a reply

Fleshraker dinosaur is the "classic" for Venomfire abuse.

One of your non-core spells should be Kelp Strand.
[spoiler]
A couple of water benders, a dike, a flaming arrow, and a few barrels of blasting jelly?

Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.
...thanks

Oh. And Fleshraker, might be problmatic. We're talking Faerune here. Dragons are more common than dinosaurs.

One of the bite of the x spells, probably the highest lvl one. Also the druid force spell (whats it called?) from SpC.

For the AC, a Giant Banded Lizard from Sandstorm has some very effective poison and is available at druid lvl 12 I believe.

I'd change the 9th and 15th level feats to something stronger if there's anything available.

For spells, mass snake's swiftness is a good choice to fill your 2nd level spell slots.

Best of luck!

I like Red Tide. 2d6 Strength damage in a 40ft burst with a Fort save or be nauseated.

Also I think there's one called Blood to Water which I believe is a druid spell. 2d6 Con damage, fort half, and it's multi-target.

Yes! mass snakes swiftness is a nice one! usefull to fill out the lower level bonuses. =)
Doubt I get to exchange the feats thoug. They were just on my mind when I made the build.
I might try a change, but that would have to  improve direcly. I don't know what the other guys are playing and I really want to be versatile...
But Thanks!

Blinding Spittle (SpC) has worked wonders for me many a time. A second level spell, ranged touch attack at a -4, blinds the target, no save? Yes please.

We've already got several nice ones.  =)
But this does not help me choose between all the nice ones.
Could we contiue this by each setting a list of 6 spells?
split on spell level perhaps? to diversify.
My current one would be like this:
2. Kelp Strand(SC)
2.blinding spittle(SC)
3. venomfire (SK)
3. Mass resist energy(SC)
4. Natures favour (SC)
4. enhanced wildshape (SC)
4. superior magic fang (SC)
4.vortex of teeth(SC)
5. quill blast (SC)
6. bite of the werebear (SC)
6. drown (SC)
6. regenerate circle (MotW)
8. Speak with anything (MotW)
8. cocoon (SC)

Drat.

Way to many!

superior magic fang only lasts 1 round/level.... IMO, not worth one of the six slots.
I do not suffer from paranoia; I enjoy every second of it.

Yeah. I'm still not seeing Vortex of Teeth at this level. 3d8 damage a round is not that good, especially since it's really hard not to hit your party too.

let me add some more candidates to the mix:
5 owls insight
6 superior resistance
9 summon elemental monolith
3 crumble, girallon's blessing
1/3 vigor (lesser)

Quill blast has to be from SpC, DM doesn't have Complete series.

There is still that insta-reincarnation that you could use to give your party meleer the physical stats of a Bugbear without the mental drawback. I forgot the name right now. Ah, that was Last Breath :), as Negative Zero said.

Now must haves, in my book:
Enhance Wildshape
Bite of the Werebear
Venomfire if you wish to use it

Owl's Insight is really only good with DMM/Persist. So if you want to get that, eventually (which requires: Turning and Divine Reach from a Hierophant dip), then by all means take it. If you don't plan on persisting it, it's not worth it, IMHO, except as a DC booster. If you plan on taking a major SoD, then perhaps it's still worthwhile.

I would also consider one of the Luminous Armours.

The best would, of course, be somehow getting an actual domain, and getting a Miracle from it. But that's OT, I guess.

You don't need reach; Owl's Insight is personal.
