launch bolt + eschew materials

launch bolt launches any light crossbow bolt with a range increment of 80 ft.

eschew materials ignores the cost of any material under 1g.

a bolt costs 1 silver.

+1 size catagory to it doubles the cost.

a gargantuan light crossbow bolt costs 8 silver and does 3d6 damage.

launch bolt never said anything about "size appropriate" light crossbow bolts.

incidentally, casting launch bolt as an SLA means you can do it with collosal bolts.   and yes, I know about the warmage edge abuse, and the fel draining acid splash.  this post is for entertainment purposes only.  also, arcane thesis(launch bolt) anyone?

cantrip + 5 levels of archmage + arcane fire = 5d6 damage with a cantrip

Yes it's a horrible use of a 9th level spell slot for a stupid trick

Yeah, this is a relatively old trick.

Haven't seen it with Eschew Materials before, though. :)

Yeah, this is a relatively old trick.

Haven't seen it with Eschew Materials before, though. :)

Heh, outshine the warlock for a couple levels at his own game :P  I'm tempted to put that on my character now just for shits and grins so I don't feel so useless with so few spells at level TWO :P

Wouldn't it be 4d6, though?  1d8 for medium, 2d6 for large, 3d6 for huge, 4d6 for gargantuan.

Edit: Now find a way to add in the epic feat, Ignore Material Components, to fire arbitrarily large bolts for arbitrarily large damage.

Aren't there no sizes above Colossal, unless you're using 3rd-party materials?

PS: you don't need Ignore Material Components, you just need to have racial spellcasting.

There are no sizes above colossal for creatures, but it's entirely possible to get objects above colossal for objects.  If you're a medium creature using Monkey Grip to wield a large fullblade, and then use Giant Size to turn colossal, what size is your sword if not one size category above colossal?  The weapon damage tables from Arms and Equipment Guide already support weapons beyond colossal.  Just not weapons that are very far beyond colossal.  But presumably, there is damage progression if you manage to get a weapon that's even bigger, even if you have to extrapolate from the A&EG tables to get it.

assuming that the custom item rules for an at will power is 1800*caster level*EFFECTIVE spell level, and you are able to craft metamagic'ed spells into custom items.....  ring of eschew materials invisible launch bolt.


yep, thats right..... for 900 gold, at will gargantuan invisible crossbow bolts fired from your hands. THAT is the REAL ki blast.  :lmao

EDIT: math error, wrote 1800g instead of 900g.... which is the WBL for a 2nd level char, if I recall...

EDIT2: also, 50 +1 sizing crossbow bolts are only 8k gold or so....

Who can tell anyway as blurry as it would get going just under the speed of light but somehow too slow to hit anything but an immobile opponent?  And besides, it's on fire :P  But it's not fire O.o  LOL

There was actually a character in the original Dragonball who travelled around by throwing giant pillars and then hopping on.

Dragon magazine 302 gave us the cantrip zap trap, 1 electric damage in a 3 inch diameter rune.

Pathfinder gave us infinate cantrips a day.

pay 4 silver for a 6' by 6' canvis.

cast eschued material zap trap 576 times, or just under 10 solid hours of casting...


then deploy your canvis as you see fit (Aka, a trap that drops it on an unsuspecting wizard, replace the 40th level barbarian's bed roll with the canvis and put him to sleep, permenately)
A player once asked me if there was any way to make a Tarrasque more evil... 3 sessions later he was stoned with D20s as the PC led an exidus out of the path of a Dire Tarrasque of Legendary Wonder.

I guess the question is: should you take a -6 penalty for firing a weapon three size categories too big?  It's a grey area, but so is this trick. ;)
