Choosing builds
« on: August 20, 2009, 09:50:42 AM »
Elo everyone, as you can see I am new here, so, nice to "meet" you!

I am designing my character for an upcoming mini adventure. There will only be me and another player, who is set on playing a Warlock 1/Sorcerer/Eldrich Theurge - DM has houseruled he can get a feat that gives him +1d6 EB.

I can't choose between a Binder/(Focused?) Conjurer/Anima Mage, or a Swordsage 1/(Focused?) Transmuter/JPM!

What do you think gives us more chances to survive? I must say, I am leaning more towards Anima Mage, though HP will be an issue.

No particular houserules, 1 Flaw, 32 point buy, homebrew setting but most things are ok. Race is Silverbrow Human. We start at lvl 4, with 7k gold.

Thanks in advance for your time :)

Binder would let you cover more of the missing roles. (like rogue and item creation.)

Binder/AM, because they are just awesome. :D

A couple of water benders, a dike, a flaming arrow, and a few barrels of blasting jelly?

Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.

I think I found a trick too ^^. Don't know if it has been discovered before.

Using the online vestiges that add Power Points and psionic abilities, and a feat from Dragon Magazine, Cerebremetamagic, you can get a LOT of free metamagic. Even a Quickened 9th level spell costs 9+4*2 power points, and you can get to have more than 50.

I've been stalking the official forums for a year now though.

Ok so the build will look something like this:

Dex 14
Con 14
Int 18
Wis 8
Cha 12

Binder 1 - Able Learner, Spellcasting Prodigy (Wizard),FLAW (Weak Will), Extend Spell
Conjurer 1 - Imp Intiative, Abrupt Jaunt ACF
Conjurer 2 - Improved Binding
Conjurer 3 - +1 Int

Items: Heward's Fortifying Bedroll, Cloack of resistance +1, Headband of int +1, Healing Belt, Handy Havesack, Mage's Hand.

EDDIT: Eddited to add Extend Spell to actualy enter AM. I knew I was forgeting something.

You will also need a metamagic feat to enter Anima Mage, which I'd probably swap out spellcasting prodigy or know. devotion to get.  Invisible Spell (Cityscape, 0 adjustment) is one of my favorites, or you could grab Extend and plan on grabbing Persistent after your first use of metamagic vestige from anima mage.

A lot depends on what you plan to do in any combat though - I like knowledge devotion, but it's only useful if you plan on doing damage instead of battlefield control or something else.

invis spell has a prereq of a metamgic feat.

What? It is 100% legal per the RAW for this, and for entry into Cerebremancer. Hell, I'd even advocate trading it out via Retraining later. :P

And it's not like it's gaining you all that much, either. Binder progression is nice, but its not as great as casting progression, and this doesn't get you any more of that.

Technically can't you train out the initial Binder level after you're in without losing anything, since AM gives an effective Binder level?

Ya Phaedrus is not even busting out the cheese. He could have knocked out the second conjurer level :)
