DC25 Arcana check:1d20+7=26
"I've heard about Wayfarer Veils. They are illusions, psionic in nature, that convince the viewer nothing is there. If the subject persists, it is somewhat repulsive, shooing the creature away. It works best, funnily enough, on creatures like the ones that just attacked us."
Nathan looks pretty impressed with his knowledge.
I'd like some background on the Wayfarer Guides, specifically, do they patrol the waterways often, and do they have a system of detecting something like a fallen tree. I'll roll Bardic Knowledge, if need be.
Witty sayings? Nah, not right now. Currently playing Dwarf Fortress and League of Legends. I really recommend League of Legends.
The Wayfarer's are an organisation of guides.  They are about the only means to safely (more or less) go through the forests, jungles and rivers, for any group who is not heavily armed.  Merchants, travellers and sometimes even heavily armed groups like Keysackran Military or Harren'daen'kar teams rely on them to go from town to town.  They do not patrol anything, they are just highly trained rangers and guides, who know some quick ways to get from one point to the other.

A prestige class is the source of their veil.  If they were able to spot anything would have to rely most likely on the individual guide.  Since most of them are rangers, it is pretty likely.

How they work is like this: You pay them, and they assign a guide to you.  That guide will provide you with the Veil and some quick paths.  He will not fight for you, nor protect you if anything pierces the Veil (though some have sometimes, again, depends on the individual guide).

If that makes no sense, I will once again insist:  THE FORESTS IN THIS WORLD ARE TEAMING WITH MONSTERS OF ALL KIND, and not just the deep parts, it gets dangerous about 50 feet from the city wall.  Of course in Keysackra you dealt with this a while ago and don't have any problems with the wildlife.  But here, the jungle is a very dangerous place.

"Ok, so I'll just whip up an illusion of a big tree across the water, blocking any boats from going through. I'll make sure to make it look like the water still gets through the branches, but so that there isn't enough space for a boat to pass. Sound good?

I'll make a big uprooted... er... root system... for us to hide inside of over here, and if someone wants, they could go across the river and hide in the branches. Of course, you'll all know it is an illusion, and so be able to see through it. Then when they stop to try and get rid of it, you guys pound 'em. Sound good?
"
If no one objects, he uses Minor Image (spontaneously, sacrificing Desecrate) to conjure what he described. He makes the image include the river rushing around over and under the tree, including sounds.
Kernon speaks in a dry tone.

"Yeah, if we see them through the veil. I figure they gotta stop and reveal themselves at least temporarily if they come along and see a big tree in the way.

If you want to rig up some real trees to fall, go right ahead. It sounds like too much work to me, though.

If they don't leave their boat, I can create some fairly dangerous swimming beasts that aren't much concerned with illusions or repulsion effects. I can cross, although I think one more should accompany me. Before I do so, I'd like to establish a temporary mindlink with one or two of those on this side.

"Having a real tree across the river might be best. If they find out its fake, they'll know something is up. For one, it'll stop them long enough for an incantation. Despite the horrible manual labour, I'd say that is our best course of action. As a tangent, I also think having both sides covered is a good idea. Thus, I'll also go across with you, our noblest leader, if you wish."

"Someone's a little defensive today."

"As long as we can prevail over our foes, I don't mind much the kind of tactics we use.... as long as we don't go killing many innocents for it, though..."

Kernon stops for a moment, and speaks again.

By the way, what do you guys can do? Maybe we can plan something based on our skills... I feel like some of you guys like the tricky approach...

I can shape ectoplasm into various monstrous shapes. I can also use it to entangle our foes and create a protective cocoon around myself. I also am able to channel the crystalline dragons and gains some of their abilities. I can also create the mental links I mentioned and use my belt to heal a bit.

"I am a cleric of the 5 way rune, but my soul has been infused with the essence of the Shadow Plane, and I am learning to channel that and emulate some wizard spells."

Cecil then sniffs as if a gnat had crawled into his nose, and continues "As you've surmised, I prefer using subterfuge and every advantage I can get, instead of a direct confrontational approach."

"Don't feel bad... as long as your are good, it doesn't matter if you know a lot of tricks or not... anyway, let's get the obstacles on the river already..."

Kernon starts looking around for a suitable tree to be thrown into the river.

Wow. I feel a little bit unimportant now, as someone who has no idea what he does. I mean, I sing well....
Cecil says with a drawl "You sure do got a perty mouth."

"Ahem... I mean... what if our quarry floats by, invisibly, while you guys waste time trying to improvise a beaver dam, and then we miss them? I'm going to go ahead and throw down an illusion of something blocking the river, while you guys chop down a tree, or whatever it is you're doing."

Cecil loses his prepared Desecrate spell to spontaneously cast a Minor Image. He spends a Rebuke attempt to Heighten it to 3rd level, making the DC 18 to save against it (10+4wis+3level+1SF). He creates the image of a huge treant, which is pretending to be a tree, laying across the river as if it had been blown over by wind. This will include a big root structure with dirt on it, which he will stand inside to hide, and a bunch of branches with leaves on them on the other side of the river which his comrades can hide in, if they feel like it.
I made it a treant so I could have it stand up and pretend to attack anything that comes along and tries to bother us, to try and distract or scare whatever it is away. This is a Minor Image, so it includes sounds. Initially this will just be sounds of water rushing around the "tree". I updated my spells prepared on my sheet.
A Huge tree appears to be blocking the stream, knowing it is an illusion, you can easily see through the bluish feel that remains once you pierced it.

You start cutting down a tree, the ones around you easily towering over 100 feet, you try to get a smaller one, one around 30 feet tall.  Of course, Kernon is doing most of the work, using his guisarme to chop in the wood.  The work is going terribly slow, since you have neither the tools, nor the manpower to chop it down.  The few trees who did fall down due to natural hasard have all become rotten beyond use for your particular work...

Does someone have an idea to make the woodchopping go faster?  If not, this could easily take 2 days.  Not to mention the dragging.  You,re in the jungle, the trees are huge.

"Here, allow me.  Oh, and you might wanna keep some water handy..."

Unas' hands both begin to crackle with red energy, until a shaft of crimson plasma erupts from them, topped by a wickedly curved blade of pure eldritch power.

"Doesn't get dull, doesn't weigh anything, and will cut right through it like a hot knife through butter."
Begin chopping at the tree with a Brimstone Blast Eldritch Glaive.  I imagine it'd do better than a straight blade, and since it's going into a wedge cut out of the tree, shouldn't catch fire either, since it's snuffed out before it can get enough air to spread.
Within a few hours, the tree is cut down, and you are now only faced with the added problem of moving him to the desired spot.  Also, you imagine that a tree that looks freshly cut in the middle of a stream used for common passage and thus, at least a bit maintained, will look suspicious.
