Chapter 1: Woodland camping
« on: July 31, 2009, 12:37:09 PM »
As the night quietly died out and everyone took the flight coach or the teleportation circle to their own places to rest, you fall deep into your thoughts, this will be your first time away from the safe cocoon of the Keysackran country.  Will you be up to the challenge, will you be able to face what the hars wilderness out there has in store for you.

And so it is with a heavy yet firm heart that you get up the following day, put on your uniform and go to the barracks to coordinate with your Lieutenant.

He resumes what he said yesterday, and asks for last minute questions, then, seeing there are none, he gives you your equipment.

First, each of you gets a set of polished gray stones.

These are communication stones, he says, you can communicate with each other simply by speaking into the stone, they have a range of about a mile before the subsonic waves die out.

Then, each of you gets a spoon, wooden and dull.

Your commander, which you will decide among yourselves since none of you have rank over the others, shall have this, it is a portable tent, he hands you a small silk square, the beds and heater are already inside, it is quite nice.

he says, as he hands you a small wooden rod inscribed with runes, this is a recalling rod, break it, and you will be instantly transported here.  This is used if you have to abort, or if you have completed your mission, each of you needs to attune himself to it, a very simple manoeuvre, you just have to collect your magical energies, infuse them through your aura, and touch the rod.  (spellcraft dc 10)

Now, are you ready to leave?

Kernon focus for a second, then quickly grabs the rod and channel his energy into it.

"I'm done with the rod." Kernon the turn to his companions. "And I will pass the leadership position, 'cause fighting is the only thing I want to worry about, at least for now..."

After that, Kernon put the spoon on his backpack, and looks for a good pocket in his clothing to put his communication stone.

Of course I'm still interested in this  ;)

We are not much for leading. It get's confusing when orders are given.

Both Maj and Kaj will reach forward simultaneously to touch the rod, taking ten on spellcraft to pass it.

I wouldn't be opposed to a leadership position, but I would not demand it for myself. Does anyone object?
Zion stows his spoon next to his everlasting rations, then concentrates on the rod for a moment, focusing his meager magical energies as he had practiced. Finally, he picks up the communication stone, So I just talk into it? he asks, holding it near his mouth.

Everyone hears him loud and clear throught their own stones, creating a bit of a distortion as the sound echoes throught the stones.

(UMD can be subbed for spellcraft in this instance, or psicraft can be used too)

The lieutenant nods and then says:

Agreed, then, unless objections are voiced, i'm promoting Zion to squad-leader, and giving him the staff of recall.

Now, do any of you have questions before we teleport you to the edge of the realm?

I am ready once the rest of the squad has attuned themselves to the rod. Also, I assume this will whisk anyone attuned to it back here regardless of their present location?

Kernon thinks for a moment, as if trying to remember something.

"So, basically, we have to intercept some big shot and take care of any escort with him, correct?"

Alanco nods again.

Yes, but if possible do not kill the Wayfarer Guide.  We don't want them to be mad at us.  Only if possible.  Also, it's preferable the target be brought here alive.  Only if possible also.  We can question dead people, it's just trickier.

With those final instructions, the Lieutenant beckons for you to follow him, and you do, leading up to a room with a gigantic circle of runes on the floor.

He puts his hand on the circle and starts reciting words of incredible arcane power, triggering a vast circle of teleportation, after a few more seconds, he is done and tells you to step forward.  As you do and the motes of sparkling light start forming around you, the last thing you hear from him, are these words:

Good luck, and come back alive

The next moment, you are slightly dazed by the instant transportation, and you are in a deep forest, humongous trees sprout up everywhere around you and you can hear the sounds of wild dire chickens around you, fleeing the weird sound of the teleportation.

You are obviously at the extreme western frontier of Keysackra, you will have to proceed throught monster infested land towards the eastern borders of Tenacia, where the messenger is bound to pass, there, you will have to lay an ambush for him.

It's a hard mission, but you are hard men, with vast powers, this should be doable.

"Which way is east again?" Sam asks, a little disoriented. He throws up into a bush.

"Hmm..." Nathan manages to keep his stomach, but he hides his discomfort anyway. "I think... we need to go this way.

[spoiler]

Spellcraft (For Rod): 1d20+10=28
Survival (For Direction): 1d20+3=20 I don't know if this'll work, since it only says that someone with 5 ranks knows where north is.

Sorry for being a little absent.
Witty sayings? Nah, not right now. Currently playing Dwarf Fortress and League of Legends. I really recommend League of Legends.
