Some of the problems with point by games is that when all the characters don't agree on the "feel" of the setting chaos ensues.  However, I would never taunt someone by saying that a system cannot be broken. 

That is just asking for trouble.

I agree that "feel" is important and that character creation should be a group activity. I think the problem lies with requiring PCs to take flaws in order to have the character be what they want it to be. This is where "feel" comes in. You need to get everybody on the same page and then determine your point buy level. That said I feel like static choices such as class and race, independent of point pools actually increase creativity and character flexibility.
