Killer Barkeep (Need build advice)
« on: July 18, 2009, 01:21:21 AM »
Badass barkeeps are always fun. This is why as a DM I want some.

I was thinking of some method of using weapon aptitude while fighting with beermugs (Stunning fist with thrown beermugs!) but I can't seem to make it work.

Drunken Master is nice, but needs level 6 or higher, higher than I'm willing to give a barkeep.

Any advice? (All books..)

Artificer, using Personal Weapon Augmentation to make barstools Bane against whoever he's fighting?

Hmm... IIRC, there's a first level spell that makes you proficient in whatever you're holding at the time.

Wieldskill, Clr 1, PGtF.

The SorWiz alternative is as follows:

Yeah, that's the one.

Oooh, I misremembered the duration.  That brings down the price even further. :plotting

The barkeep is a psion.

If he is level 5 you can do telekinetic thrust to turn objects in the bar into weapons. It would be especially effective if he kept greatswords hung up on the walls for decoration.

What EL should he be?

And put a hogs head on the wall for him to throw at people with Telekinetic thrust.  Warblade could be interesting for this.
True Sign of Player Paranoia:
Player:"I look out of the keep"
DM:"There are no visible armies"
Player:"Aw crap theres an Invisible army!"

Giant moose head, steel plated antlers.
Of course, just about any AoE attack that doesn't affect objects works fine in a bar brawl. Those people who start breaking things just wake up in the morning with a hell of a headache.

And the things it reflects in, like water or glass, can all be broken, right? Since the moon you see in the sky is just being reflected in the heavens, if you tear open the heavens it's easy to break it~"

Heh.
In late 1e and early 2e, I had a Wizard get toyed with by Susanowo, the Japanese god of Storms - Chaotic.
Chaotic alignment being the key.
All material components were turned into beer, so I had to drink like a fish, to cast anything.
Houserules and all.
Fun.

Blood Golem turned into a Beer Golem.
Maho-Tsukai / Taint Caster - keyed to beer instead of Blood.
The drunken demon (wink).

Otherwise - Telekinesis psions zipping beer mugs around the obstacles, is like a dream come true, ain't it ?!

Another way to do that would be to have the the barkeep be a ghost. Which gives all day telekinesis. Also he could use the sustained force option to serve drinks. Why a ghost would run a bar is a bit beyond me though.

It's a well stocked bar.  It would be more surprising if you couldn't find spirits.

I suggest that you make the barkeep a halfling, who wields a Ramhammer. He is focused on Bull Rushes, and every time someone is disruptive, he uses his insane bull rush check to kick them out.

No one's suggested Drunken Master?
It always seems like the barrels around here have something in them.

No one's suggested Drunken Master?
Given that it requires sixth level or higher, which is higher than he's willing to place the barkeep, no.

Needs to be a 3rd level caster who can use Calm Emotions and has Brew Potion. Then, fighting wouldn't even be a problem.
[spoiler]Fighter: "I can kill a guy in one turn."
Cleric: "I can kill a guy in half a turn."
Wizard: "I can kill a guy before my turn."
Bard: "I can get three idiots to kill guys for me."

On a strange note, would anyone be put out if we had a post about people or events we can spare a thought for, or if its within their creed, a prayer for? Just a random thought, but ... hells I wouldn't have known about either Archangels daughter or Saeomons niece if I didn't happen to be on these threads.
Sounds fine to me.
probably over on "Off-topic".
might want to put a little disclaimer in the first post.

This is the Min/Max board. We should be able to figure out a way to optimize the POWER OF PRAYER(TM) that doesn't involve "Pazuzu, Pazuzu, Pazuzu".

im believe that most barkeeps are retired fighters. by retired i mean fighters who figured out they had royally screwed up by taking to many fighter levels or else had been maimed w/out proper access to effective healing.

i say straight fighter, ending on a level that grants a feat or two. to allow for barkeeper specific feats.

a 20th lvl barkeep should have a pretty low Int, as it took them 20 fighter levels to figure out that they were behind the curve abit to far.
