Small size

So for other people that have access to the books...

Are there any advantages to being size Small (like as a Halfling). I know you can't use the big weapons (and even Versatile weapons do less damage), but do you get anything to counter-act those restrictions? Or is it just assumed to be worked into the Halfling's racial traits?

In 3e small creatures did less damage, but were harder to hit so it worked itself out. I can't find anything in 4e that makes being small anything BUT a penalty.

Am I missing something?

That's kind of lame. And totally goes against the designer's intent of "no penalties, only bonuses" for races.

And for the record, I really like 4e. But it looks like there will still be house-rules :p

At least the house-rules will be easier to implement.

Yeah, there is.  ABSURD racial powers.

Halflings force an attack reroll.  When we have very few ways to boost attack and even fewer to boost defense, that's pretty good.

Monster races have it even better.  Goblins get Evasive Reflexes 1/encounter, which was plenty good in 3.5; Kobolds are the only race that gets a free 5-foot step AND can take it an addition to a move.  Gnomes?  Once per encounter, they can TURN INVISIBLE.
Anyway, this cake is great!  It's so delicious and moist.

So being small is a penalty used to balance out halflings because they would be deemed too strong if they were medium sized? :confused

I don't think so. They're decent Warlords I suppose.

or rogues/warlocks. With the halfling racial feats you can become basically immune to AOOs as a rogue, because your AC will be so huge.
