Jacemachine's Apocalypse
« on: July 07, 2009, 02:57:17 PM »

Not to step on the toes of the other Apoc threads, but I've been getting juiced about an apocalyptic setting-- This is basically, what I would want to see in my game:

ELEMENTS:
The Undead- biblical references hint that during the end days, the graves shall open and the dead shall come forth. Zombies pretty much rock. How heavy thier use should be...? Perhaps regional and tied in with one of the horsemen?

The Four Horseman- The first horseman to appear is Pestilence, who rides upon a white horse. Pestilence conquers the nations of the world, subjugating them to demonic powers of the world. In the wake of Pestilence comes War, riding a large, wild red horse and wielding a tremendous sword symbolizing continuing war over the domination of the world, killing millions in his path with his sword. In the wake of War, due to immense destruction because of War and Pestilence, is Famine. FamineDeath. His horse is stark pale. He is followed by Hades and carries the remaining souls to their final destinations.

Angels & Demons- Warring about on earth, while humans strive for survival... Good times.

Urban Decay- Visually, I love it. Gameplay-wise, it's great terrain!

Machines- Robots the cull humanity. Big Small. This is classic Apoc stuff right here-- who's to say that "spiritual entities" such as Angles & Demons can't come to our world WITH their own technology?

I love me some viral deathspawn! Good times!

I see the game starting out at the eve of the Apocalypse-- CLOVERFIELD-style PC's would be SOMEWHERE enjoy NORMAL LIFE when the world decides to end.

The initial adventures would be similar to Cloverfield, in that the PCs have no freakin' clue what's happening. Rather than a giant monster trashing the city-- I would select one of the Horsemen.

And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him.

The 4 Horsemen, would take dominion over different parts of the world-- each starts in a specific area, and their sphere of chaotic influence would expand outwards...

In this version, neither Heaven nor Hell would give a crap about humanity. The Good and the Bad are viewed equally as fodder by both sects.

I think the eventual objective for the PCs would be to somehow defeat each Horseman, in turn. "freeing" their held lands from their influence.

Each of the four horsemen will take dominion over a specific city in the world. Suggestions?

NYC, Paris, Sydney?

How about a thematically appropriate region for each?

Pestilence could begin in the Amazon jungle (it's full of insects and what not)
Famine in Africa
War in the Middle East
and Death...  Death could rise in a dead city such as Chernobyl or Pripyat

This sounds like a hard World to survive in. Zombies, Angels and Demons slaying people who stand in the way, the Demonic Horsemen of the Bible, my noobish ass might get iced. I think ranks in hide and move silently might be the better way to stay alive.

I'd totally play : )

It'd be a bitch to live in-- no doubt-- but post-apocalyptic scenarios never are fun to live in-- but they ARE fun to play in... :P

So yeah, Angels, Demons, the Four Horsemen, Zombies, Robots & giant robots. Mad max style shit, and maybe the Easter bunny.  ;)

Those dead cities that you posted j0lt are pretty cool-- image wise-- I was looking them up and the visuals are pretty sweet-- gets the creative gears turning...

Do it, do it, do it.

Lol I just downloaded the D20 Modern Rulebook since I never had my own and I've started thinking about a character should you go through with this.

Salvaging any still useable equipment that's left over from before the apocalypse, and using that to survive and improve living circumstances, and maybe use them as weapons if there's enougth useable stuff left after that...

Would you use rules from D20 Apocalypse? I was reading some stuff and saw feats like Expert Scrounger, Fight with Anything, and advanced classes like Road Warrior, Salvager. Cool stuff I never knew existed until I started studying to play.

Well, yeah!  That's the base idea of most Post-Apoc games!  :p

One idea I had that would work in a more conventional post-nuclear-holocaust type game is a group of PCs who are all bunker-born teens venturing out for the first time.

I just saw FALLOUT 3, and now I understand why everyone is geeking out about it-- an AMAZING game.

Being a bunker dweller, coming out to the surface is a basically what the main character is, and it is a good story hook.

Another Hook, could be that the PCs are a group of bunker/colony guards or solider, who are tasked with the job of keeping weird shit at bay.

I suppose a good background motivator is that the characters come from a setting thats like 12 Monkeys. Except without all the time travel stuff. I thought it would be fairly interesting to describe that all of your characters live in a cage and are let out (with the promise of meds) to do some light "scouting" for your dwindling population. Storyline and breaking mechanism in the same effort.

And the inevitable mission into hostile territory to get to the source of all that weird shit and take it out, with all the nasty risks it presents :D
