[SELF] D&D in Mythical Greece! (PBP)
« on: May 27, 2009, 08:00:01 PM »
Just want to plug my PbP thread:
[D&D 3.5] Mediterranean Plotluck

Just to clarify, it's inspired by Greek Mythology, not based on Greek Mythology. It actually features a crossover cosmology. In a vein similar to the Eberron campaign setting, the setting uses magic to create an anachronism stew. Psionics, incarnum, soulbinding and more in a mildly post-apocalyptic ancient world.  :D

As an added bonus, I'm working with the players to create setting-specific vestiges based on classical gods, heroes, and monsters of myth, including (but not limited to): Atlas, Cronus, and Eros (all the titans, really), Cerberus, the hydra, the sphinx, the gorgon, the Calydonian boar, Medusa, and more! (Oh my!)  :rollseyes

I've adapted a couple of Greek critters to 3.5 on the wizards boards.  I also have some links to mythological sites on the plugs board here if you need them, and I can make critters up too.  I'd love to play but Im kinda busy...

I'd be interested in seeing what you have. After browsing Greek Mythology pages on wikipedia for weeks on end, my idea of a standard encounter in the wild is an animal (or dire animal) + Monster of Legend template (Monster Manual 2). Rinse and repeat. Just kidding. :banghead

While the Monster of Legend template should allow me to create a bunch of interesting challenges, and D&D has quite a few of the iconic Greek monsters in the core Monster Manual, I'm still interested in seeing other Greek-flavored monster, even ones that aren't pulled directly out of mythology. Greek mythology is more of a guideline than an actual rule, in this case. Y'know, RAI as opposed to RAW?  :D

Just make sure you put it up after you're done with it. Bhu makes neat critters to watch.

It's also a little cold because of that.
Please get it a blanket.

"Just what do you think the moon up in the sky is? Everyone sees that big, round shiny thing and thinks there must be something round up there, right? That's just silly. The truth is much more awesome than that. You can almost never see the real Moon, and its appearance is death to humans. You can only see the Moon when it's reflected in things. And the things it reflects in, like water or glass, can all be broken, right? Since the moon you see in the sky is just being reflected in the heavens, if you tear open the heavens it's easy to break it~"

The combat should be fun and exciting in our game thread, at least.  :flutter
