Gestalt mounted warmage
« on: May 14, 2009, 08:19:01 PM »
I was making a character for Sinfire Titan's Fall of Sharn campaign.
Rules quoted from VennDygrem's thread:
Quote
  • Limited Gestalt: Gestalt is allowed, but by tier. (For reference, JaronK's 'Tier System for Classes' Thread)
Tier 1's are on their own. Tier 2 can gestalt with NPC classes only. Tier 3 can gestalt with Tier 4 and lower, Tier 4 with 3 and lower, etc. Beguiler, however, is considered Tier 2; Totemist is tier 3, Incarnate between 2 and 4 depending on optimization, soulborn is obviously tier 5.
One side is primary, and one side is secondary. This means that one class must be used all the way through; For instance, Warblade 20//Barbarian 2/Totemist 8/Totem Rager 10
  • 43 PB, starting level is 7 (XP is halfway between 7 and 8); Action points are allowed
  • 2 Flaws (however, achievable between 1st and 4th level); No traits
  • Standard WBL (19000 for ECL 7)
  • All characters get Heroic Spirit as a bonus feat.
  • And more on a case-by-case basis
Also, no material from campaign books other than Eberron, and LA/bloodlines apply to both sides of the gestalt.

Here's what I've got so far (EDIT: I think it's about done now)

Riugonth Maartel
XP: 24,490 (Lv8 at 28,000) Action Points: 11

Carries a Valenar scimitar and always wears gloves.[/spoiler]

Might I suggest the Zhentarim Skymage PrC from Lords of Darkness? It gives you a powerful mount that is similar in function to a familiar, but if the mount has spellcasting the Share Spells bond goes both ways (it can Share Spells with you). There are some crazy choices which include Dragons and Nightmares.

A couple of water benders, a dike, a flaming arrow, and a few barrels of blasting jelly?

Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.

Unfortunately, Lords of Darkness is a Forgotten Realms Book. That setting, along with Dragonlance, are banned in this game since Sinfire doesn't want campaign setting content to cross over.

On the one hand, that helps cut down a couple cheesy tricks (like Magic in the Blood + templates granting lots of SLAs, Flyby Breath feat for infinity attacks), and cut out a bunch of stuff that just doesn't rightly fit (content specific to regions of Faerun, for instance). On the other, Eberron was made with incorporating just about everything in mind as "core." Personally, I believe it shouldn't but banned outright, but besides a few things (planetouched/lesser planetouched), there's still plenty of content to pull from. Just not as much.

Necromantic bloodline adds
Cause fear, Ghoul touch, Vampiric touch, Contagion,Dominate person,Eyebite,Control undead,Trap the soul, and Wail of the banshee to spells known, at the expense of any and all conjuration(healing) spells you know.

Dragon Bloodline adds
Comprehend languages, Darkvision, Protection from elements, Fear, Mindfog, True seeing, Vision, Mind blank, and Dominate monster at the expense of some sort of descriptor of spells antithetical to your draconic herity (dm has to approve, my advice is to have some sort of firey dragon heritage and ditch [water] spells).

Both add a bit of versatility to your dude's spells.

Well, as an alternative to lesser aasimar, there's the 0LA version for the racial class.  If you want to keep buffing up, instead of taking the next vanilla aasimar level, the aasimar/celestial transition racial progression is nice.  Again, LA buyoff + template class is nifty keen.

Too bad there's no LA Buyoff, so no nifty keen-ness. :D

Still, one could consider those LA 0 racial options as setting-less, so that's a useful find.

As for Prime's build, I'm not really sure what else there is to add to make it more awesome for what he wants to do.  ???
Of course, that's mostly because it's late and I can't think straight.
--------
Edit:
I see you have changed your mind.   :P

Regardless, Bloodlines are treated like templates in the game, so they won't help him. They are like LA, and must apply to one full level, not one side of gestalt. Oh, right, from Dragon.  :banghead

Of course, if he's ok with that...

Because it wasn't in the OP of the original thread either. It came in about page 3 or 4, when I posted and said I would be willing to DM.

Hey, SF, does my cohort get point buy or do I go with the standard ability scores?

Oh, and someone who's neutral needs to pay up 2,000gp for their spellguard ring. ;)

Vinom also wants it, so who will get more use out of it? Who will be closer to enemies, and who has the poorer Reflex save? Since Vinom's character is a psion//magewright... yeah, you can have it. :p

I am also neutral... although my reflex save is rather high, at +8

Natural Attack monster, remember? :P I'll be right in there as well. However, i guess you can have it.

Is it going to be a problem that i am true neutral? (although, not strongly worried about anything based on morals, rather than active balance as a lifestyle...)
