Tranquil Music
« on: May 11, 2009, 05:41:55 AM »
Hey all. I'd like to get some opinions on some softer music. I'm trying to make a playlist for my iTunes so I can listen to music when I go to sleep, and I only have about 12 songs on it.

What I'm asking for isn't a download, but song names and links.

I'm looking for songs like Dragons of Heaven, Come Clarity, and Drama Digest to put on the list. I just need the song names (and maybe a link to a Youtube Video of the song to sample it).

Thanks in advance BG.

Been building one myself too, I have a few suggestion,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6Y7nys00dk (be careful some of their songs are quite heavy don't take anything, but they do have a good amount of slow ballads, and cellos are perfect for sleeping music)
Ron Korb, Noble Land (look for Celtic Heartland, it's great if you like the genre)
Nightwish, Sleepwalker
Nightwish, Sleeping Sun Tarja got a great voice, she's awesome (and gosh she's hot)

I think you would really dig STS9.  They make a lot of really ethereal, atmospheric electronic music.  It isn't trance or techno or house or anything... it's hard to define a genre.  Some songs are all instruments, some are all synthesized.  Most are a mix of real instruments and computerized instruments.  When they play live they use a lot of real instruments, but also have more of a dance-ish edge to their sound; their CDs are hella relaxing.  Every once in a while they have a female singer, but it is rare.  I am having some trouble finding good (non-live) youtube videos, but I will list what I can.

AH! A good example: Better Day. Ignore the actual video--I have no idea what it's about.

Music, Us (Live)
Aimlessly. This song is a little more on the electronic side, but it is a decent vid.

Anyway, their drummer is fucking sick live.

By the way, "Artifact" and "Seasons 01" are their CDs with the relaxing songs.

I don't know the name of the song, but I've always liked the music played on Diablo (1) when you're in Tristrim.  I know you can find it online, but I'm not sure if it's on iTunes.

Raptamei - E.S. Posthumus

EDIT: Also, Ein Lied - Rammstein Pretty much the only truly 'tranquil' song they've done. And the lyrics are still messed up. :D

I'd go with the whole Cartographer album from E.S. Posthumus, especially the "Pi" series.

I've just seen it as "Tristram Theme".  Phenomenal song.

I apologize for not having any links, but I have found that a lot of Midnight Syndicate's music is calming to me. They have several albums, and they range in scope from inspirational (D&D soundtrack) to chilling (Born of the Night). Those are the only two albums I have now, but they are very relaxing imo. Also, you may try listening to some New Age music without lyrics. Some  ofitis used for meditation, and it relaxes as well. I can't tell youany names right now, but most metaphysical shops have them.

I don't think I understand. You want easy listening music? Why don't you just listen to some freakin' Beethoven, hippy.

I'm sure it's just me, but I've always been able to sleep pretty well with some Iron Maiden or Judas Priest (and most other rock, power metal etc.) in the background :P

Explosions in the Sky is a band with pretty relaxing music (despite the name).  They did most of the soundtrack to Friday Night Lights if that helps.

Because listening to Devil Driver while trying to sleep doesn't work. It only makes me want to mosh more.

I want music that provides an alternative to sleeping pills, as I have chronic insomnia.

Isn't Insomnia inherently chronic?

I typically blast metal through the night so I might not be the best one to ask but I do really like the cd Kveldssanger by Ulver.
