I've flipped through some of the books and I like a lot of the ideas.

I'm thinking about picking some of them up from eBay (or the like).

What is considered to be the best edition?

What are some recommended books?

Most of the people I know prefer the more recent version to the older one.  The bestiary was quite nice.  Beware the Feats though.  Serious balance issues.

Thanks.

It's a pretty poorly designed cover, oh well.

I haven't played Second Edition, but I loved the revised First Edition ("Atlantean Edition").  Yes, there were some major balance issues with some of the feats, but the tweaks to the d20 combat system were spot-on.

Yeah, but it could have been worse!
