Well, I migrated because my gleemax account stopped working late last year, and registering for a new one isn't working (they won't send me a confirmation email).

That, and better search functionality.

Why did Ubernoob/archrpwr leave? same thing?

And what about onewinged4ngel?

Where is tempest_stormwind?

Is PI gone too?

A lot of the people I used to heed have disappeared.

While I hardly consider myself a regular poster, I am content to just read nowadays.

Not to sound like a doomsayer, but I get the feeling that we are running low on Optimisation ideas nowadays. Every goldmine, eventually, runs low on gold.

You know, I'd love to see the Character Optimisation forums released as a book, online journal or similar.

But then, I'd also love to see Edition 5 released, which would be 3.5 with a lot of the really awful stuff taken out.

Sounds like my cup is half empty, today, huh?

I hope it's not true that we've exhausted our optimization ideas.  I think much of the energy for 3.5 optimization was drained with the onset of 4e, and many of those gamers simply migrated onto other similar pursuits, like particle physics or creating financial derivatives.

I think there's still a broad frontier in 3.5 optimization, principally in quantifying the power curve as T_G had begun (Optimization by the Numbers I believe it was called).

On a side note, anyone know if Snow Savant is still around?

I think several of us are waiting for Pathfinders full release this summer.  Following that, there should be lots of new products from paizo that might be worthwhile.  I also have been delving into 3rd party material (currently, mainly for Binders, but there's other stuff, too).

Between this board and the old board, the total posts day to day,
USUALLY out number the 4e CO-board at gleemax.
When a new book comes out, there's a spike at 4e,
but that's because the young-lings can find it too easily.
Most of the posts are rules details, that better off on regular boards.
Additionally, there's a contingent of posters who think 4e is scary powerful (ugh)
and the monsters are scary powerful too ... Gygax and Arneson are laughing all the way to Ysgard.
Glory ?! Hells no. I want a feather duster.
I pity the fools.

So spare-not, we got game, and we got The game.

I think it is also in part because a lot of the best optimizers frequent this forum more frequently, but it's pretty hard to find this place if you're not actively looking for min/max forums, and likewise the gleemax one is also in a pretty awkward position in the boards, so there's rarely any "new blood" joining the boards.

Well, I'm certainly glad we've found a home of sorts.  Since 4e's release, I was convinced it was the reason for the mass exodus.  I had heard rumors of Autumn's fate but, I wasn't sure what happened.  Glad to see we're all (mostly) here.

I'm relatively new to CO. I think I found CharOp it while searching for "<class> handbook" or "guide" or something (that was after the reformat, iirc).

Then I found this forum and saw the same people that (once, or still) populated CharOp and thought "well, that is nice". Later I saw the 'updated' handbook section and I was sold. Also, spoilers can only be seen by logged-in members.

I was not aware that archerpwr had left CharOp, and only in looking for the "noodle incident" I found that he's now Ubernoob. I remember him posting on one of the threads I posted when I registered there.
