I know I'm late to the party, but I'm hoping to submit a character real quick. Wish I had checked the thread out sooner. The title threw me, but multi-planar hijinks are way cool.

My initial concept is a grad student in biophysics from a high-tech plane that recently fell through a planar rift due to an experiment gone wrong. He'd complain a lot about the medieval facilities and use some Whedonesque speech patterns, but use a form of magic that he thinks of as applied science.

Some questions:

Would it be OK to reflavor the props of arcane or divine magic to be more tech? I'm not looking for any mechanical changes here, just things like his spellbook being a Kindle, spell components being fiddling with and cursing at equipment, etc.?

Are Neraphim (Planar Handbook) allowed?

Is the Arcane Disciple Cleric variant (from DR311 available at Crystal Keep) allowable?

If Dragon material doesn't fly, how about either domain Wizard or the spontaneous domain casting Cleric variant (PH2)?

Dragon Material isn't a published book so I won't be allowing it.

Sure, be a Neraph if you want.

I don't mind arcane/divine props being flavoured to suit your background, but no changing of spell names/appearance as it could easily become confusing to deal with.

Domain wizard is acceptable, spontaneous clerics... mmm i'd say spontaneous casting not so much. Take a look at some other characters for an idea of an acceptable power level.

I'll decide whether this runs or not based on completed applications by Monday at 00:01, that's 0:01am Monday morning. Right after midnight on Sunday.

So, would anyone care to summarize what roles we have?

I'm a secondary combatant and party face.

My character is a mobile human shield, basically. :p With planar travel capabilities. I'm the robot's bodyguard, first and foremost. :D

Domain Wizard: Giving up nothing for something.
True enough. Giving up the option of specialization is a pretty small cost. Luckily, while the benefit is quite nice, its not game-breaking.

As for party roles, please correct me if anything below is wrong or missing:
PhaedrusXY         Khas        human shield psi-gish
Solo                   Sir Osric   gish and party face
jameswilliamogle   Al-Kassir   swordsage spec. in battlefield control
woodenbandman  Glissara     psion spec. in summoning/battlefield control

Mine will probably be a wizard specializing in buff/debuff.

Takanaki, is the Wild Mage PrC from Complete Arcane OK?

jameswilliamogle, if you don't want to go ahead with your current build, you might want to convert your earlier rogue to a scout. They can get their damage bonus pretty consistently while still getting nice skills and trapfinding. But personally, I think your current character is OK. Sure he can trip, but he's hardly a one trick pony. And anyway (again IMO), tripping is one of the most effective things a melee character can do, it still lets you do damage, and is tactical (thus being interesting and requiring thought).

Spontaneous casting is actually a lot weaker than vancian casting.

I don't know if its broken, but the spontaneous domain variant is arguably better than the standard cleric. By trading in the ability to spontaneously heal you can use any of a single domain's spells on the fly instead. So for the most part its still vancian. Using the PhB domains its nothing special (with the exception of the War domain's access to Divine Power), but paired with some of the Spell compendium domains like Celerity, it would be strong.

I think it is very funny that you chose Biophysics. I have a Ph.D in Biophysics. It doesn't let you cast fireballs.  :lmao

So is anyone specialized in dishing out damage? So far, it looks like a lot of battlefield control, debuffing and tanking (i.e. getting beat up well), but no glass cannons or blasters. Am I wrong? My character can dish out one attack that does 4d6+5 per round, which is ok but not great.

And can anyone actually heal damage? I only have the ability to get a bunch of temporary hit points, but no actual healing capacity. I could pick up the Healing Mantle, though, if I need to. I know Woodenbandman can heal himself, but not the rest of us "meatbags". :D

Tsch. We can always use UMD on eternal wands of lesser vigor and lesser restoration.
Have the psion and wizard dump 2 skillpoints into UMD and we'll be set for out of combat healing.

I redid my gear a bit, and added a Healing Belt, and I saw a Wand of Lesser Vigor on someone's sheet. So we should be ok for hit point damage. We'll probably want to pitch in and buy an Eternal Wand of Lesser Restoration though, like you said.

Hmm... although aren't there some Orbs of Restoration that are really good for the money, and work kind of like a Healing Belt? I remember seeing them in Bunko's.

Edit: Yep, here we go. 2nd to the last page, not updated to page 1 yet.
Quote
Orb of Mental Renewal MIC 167 and Rod of Bodily Restoration MIC 173. 3,100 GP each. 3 charges per day, restore 4/6/8 to (int, wis, cha - orb) or (con, str, dex - rod), or half that to all three stats. They make great party purchases - restore a BIG chunk of lost ability damage without resorting to lesser restoration.
Maybe we should make getting these as a group purchase a priority, since we're starting in a high magic area where presumably it might be possible to buy them...

Edit2: Gah! Ninja'd! :D
History
Aquinas was born in a small fishing village in Kastuul, the child of a passing druid and a foolish young girl. His not entirely human nature went unremarked, in a place where being always damp was a fact of life. However, his illegitimate birth left mother and child outcast from the village, to fend for themselves. Aquinas spent long hours with the water as a child, and the villagers often saw him speaking to the waves and the gulls. When sudden storms struck and capsized the boats out at sea, they declared the teenaged Aquinas demonspawn, and threw him overboard far out at sea, tied with weights to make him sink.

The villagers were wrong, however, the boy was of the blood of the sea, not demons, and the ocean would not take it's own easily. Aquinas spent hours underwater, until rescued by a passing druid, who could breath water as he did. His father, though neither knew it.

Thus, the boy was traveled with his father, wandering the world, tending to nature and when the time came that he was judged suitable, Aquinas was formally initiated into the druidic tradition. The ceremony was odd by any account, where he was taken out to sea along with other druids and their initiates to hear the Feathered Whale speak.

Assigned to a grove in a seaside swamp where his talents were best suited, Aquinas worked diligently at the novice duties of tending the region, speaking little and aiding the senior druids where he could, seeking unnatural beasts to be expunged, not least of which were several young dragon invaders, black and green, which threatened to ruin the land in their search for new lairs. When he was deemed strong enough, Aquinas was sent out into the world with his brethren, to find out more about the rifts.

Personality
Aquinas's mood is like his blood, a fickle thing, normally calm and thoughtful, his blood is stirred irrationally when violent storms or strong waves are present, echoing the waters without. Druidic discipline has something to say to that though, and he has since learned restraint, enough to keep him from the overtly suicidal, if not the unwise at such times.

Appearance
Aquinas travels in a large dark green cloak concealing his distinctive black dragon leather armor from casual eyes, a parting gift from his grove. He wields a long crooked piece of driftwood topped with a shard of a dragon's fang and wears a bracelet of a white feather threaded through leather and twine stripes. Small charms and fetishes adorn his clothing, though of these only a small number are actually magical.
Aquinas is 5'4", and appears to be in his 20s. His short cropped hair is dark grey, while sea blue eyes stare out of his tanned face. He bleeds seawater.

If you're from Kastuul you would have a clan mark, so pick something appropriate to add to your description as a tatoo type thing on the face. Tribal marking... even if you're basically unwelcome now you still are part of the clan. If you want you could have had it removed, but this basically would make you the same as an outsider to any other Kastuul... maybe even regarded as an exile (which you are, but you might not want everyone to know if you go there : p )

And now it's time so i'll go over sheets and look at things to see what shall become of this.

Phrae's Psion
Jame's ... I have no idea if he is sticking with any of them
Solo's Osric
Veekie's Druid

Pretty sure I said tonight was the deadline, i'll see how I feel in the morning but right now I don't see my criteria to run this campaign as having been met.

I don't really understand this post. What criteria? Number of people? There are a couple of other characters that are pretty much completed. Head of Vecna's Wild Mage, and Woodenbandman's Psion. I changed to a Psiwarrior/Ardent multiclass. The link to it is the first post on page 2, where my original character outline was. Here it is again, so you don't have to go dig for it, though.

Physical Power: Expend focus as a free action to add +2 to Str, Dex, or Con for 1 round.
Time Mantle: +2 to Initiative. Can expend focus as an immediate action to delay damage from an attack or effect for 1 round. You cannot gain immunity to this damage in the mean time. It affects you as it would at the time you delayed it.
PsicrystalTactics:
Can manifest Vigor for free during a fight, using Linked Power + Adrenaline Surge (which itself is a nice swift action buff)(Swift action, expend focus). Combined with the Physical Power mantle ability (expend focus), this can give a total of +4 to Str and Con which stacks with enhancement bonuses.

The Guardian mantle lets him take a hit for someone by expending his focus as an Immediate action, which with Share Pain + Vigor, he can do very well.

He'll have to manage his actions and foci wisely, but with Hustle + Psionic Meditation, he can get his own focus back with a swift action and some power points.
Character background:
On Khas' homeworld of Aiur, a hegemony of powerful psionic constructs rules the entire globe. Humans are at best second class citizens, but in many cases little more than slaves. Khas himself has been trained as a bodyguard, and is the servant of Glissara, one such construct. He feels that this station is an honor, and he is completely devoted to his master, body, mind and spirit.

After their homeworld of Aiur was devastated by an invasion of extraplanar beings, Khas was sent with his master as part of an investigative team to determine what might be causing the dimensional instabilities that led to the invasion. One of the Seers said that this world might yield clues as to the nature of these instabilities. During their travels through the Astral Plane, the other members of their team were killed during a battle with githyanki raiders. Khas was their planar guide, and feels that he failed by letting the others die in the attack. He still takes pride that he and his master were able to survive and defeat their enemies, however.

Khas now finds himself on a strange world, where humans are dominant and constructs are hardly to be seen anywhere. A savage, chaotic place, he thinks. Without discipline, humans are left to war aimlessly with themselves, which according to ancient legends led to an apocalypse on his own world, and the rise of the machines, which then restored a harmonious peace.

Most of the survivors from his homeworld have since relocated to Shakuras, a secret world which Khas and his master only briefly visited before embarking upon their current mission.

Philosophy:
Men are ruled by their baser emotions. Driven by petty greed, selfishness, and vengefulness, they constantly war with each other, if left unchecked. The pure intellect of the machine is free from such instincts, and therefore it is Just that machines should rule over men, to guide them and keep their instinctual natures in check.

The deities of men are likewise petty, and driven by emotions. The machines have no need of such deities, and neither do men, when they have the machines as physical gods there to guide them. Therefore, there is no greater calling than to be called to serve as a Shield for one of the Masters.
A couple of water benders, a dike, a flaming arrow, and a few barrels of blasting jelly?

Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.
