Wildshaping melee char
« on: March 18, 2009, 02:32:16 PM »
I get a cohort YAY! for once. So... I know what I want just need the best way to do it, I'm thinking
Monk 3 / fist of the forest 3/ Druid 5 / Master of Many Forms 10, (I get 21 lvls to work with) Can any one think of a better build, I want wildshape and most dmg with no care on casting. Also taking a Vow of Poverty. The main char is a Radiant Servor of Pelor, I might switch which one is the leader and follower though.

All sources allowed except eberon and dragon/dungeon mags.

The Shapeshift variant from PHB2 is easier to use (and cooler, IMO) than Wildshape, if a little less powerful (it boosts your physical ability scores rather than replacing them).

Vow of Poverty is weak - look for items which work while wildshaped (such as wilding clasps).

Is Still Mind a prereq for FotF? If not, there's no reason for that third monk level.

Alternatively, you could try
Barbarian X/Bear warrior 5/Frenzied berserker 1/Warshaper 4

You get shapeshifting (grow horns! extend your limbs! rapid healing!) and crazy-high Strength, with no casting. If you want to go even further, take some War HulkMiniatures Handbook levels (you only gain the benefits/drawbacks while morphed).

The tier system in a nutshell:

Tier 5: An expert cartographer or a decent marksman.
Tier 4: An expert marksman.
Tier 3: An expert marksman, cartographer and chef who can tie strong knots and is trained in hostage negotiation or a marksman so good he can shoot down every bullet fired by a minigun while armed with a rusted single-shot pistol that veers to the left.
Tier 2: Someone with teleportation, mind control, time manipulation, intangibility, the ability to turn into an exact duplicate of anything, or the ability to see into the future with perfect accuracy.
Tier 1: Someone with teleportation, mind control, time manipulation, intangibility, the ability to turn into an exact duplicate of anything and the ability to see into the future with perfect accuracy.[/spoiler]

Swift Dirty trick FTW! :

Divine Minion of Isis/Anhur/Hathor 1, Monk 1, Unarmed Swordsage 3, MoMF 10, FotF 1, Nature's Warrior 5. +1 Sws level if you use LA buyout.

For a less dirty entry, +1 to Ithamar build.

Then add a few levels of Warshaper.

Love that class. That last feature is like "Wild shape at will" if you can spend enough time Wild Shaped. The only thing that hurts is the loss on wild shaping level.

Ty for the Help, and you guys don't think VoP would be worth it? The dm is going to roll all acquired items, figured I'd be safe if I didn't need any of them, Monk for AC + Fist of the forest.

Unarmed Swordsage gives you WIS to AC, as well as Improved Unarmed Strike just like a monk, making it easier to qualify for Fist of the Forest.  Plus manuevers and whatnot.  I'd definitely recommend it over monk.

At level 21, VoP will not be worth it compared to what you could normally acquire.  But if the DM is randomly assigning items / wealth, VoP might not be the worst choice.

Roll for acquired items?  :lmao

Will you have a chance to sell them and re-equip yourself later? If so, you're still better off going without VoP.

Wow... at level 21. That sounds totally nuts. Is this a one-shot? I wouldn't get my hopes up for a good game. :D

Add the dragonborn template to your monk/MoMF, and give him wings, and he might be ok with VoP. You could either take the wings aspect, or take the breath weapon and take the feats Dragon Wings and Improved Dragon wings. If you take the breath weapon, make sure to also take Entangling Exhalation.

If this is a long-running game, and you have the opportunity to get/make magic items, he's definitely going to fall behind, though. There is no Epic VoP.

epic VoP

no eberon allowed (he doesn't like eberon but loves faerun) IDK how he sees eberon Over powered compared to faerun?

Thinking about stacking Damage reduction on myself through the epic levels. Also going to hell figured Celestial template on my Wildshapes would help (not sure havn't even looked at it yet just guessing)

Dragonborn isn't from Eberron. It's from Races of the Dragon.

You explicitly lose Breath Weapons and Gaze Attacks when using Alternate Form, so unfortunately no. The Dragonblooded feat that lets you burn Arcane slots to generate a breath weapon should work though, I think.
You're reading a genuine, 100% natural Wih post - they say they're as rare as hen's teeth from a Chicken Infestee's pocket. Oooh, aaah! </unlurk>

VoP works while wildshape'd correct? I won't be able to get wilding armor or wilding clasps so I think I'll stick with it.

human cloistered cleric1/Wildshape ranger19/monk1

Feats: able learner (to max out knowledge skills) ascetic hunter, extend spell (from planning domain), knowledge devotion (from cloistered cleric), persistant spell, DMM: persistant spell, sword of the arcane order (lets you prepare wizard spells with your ranger spell slots), natural spell, multiattack, practiced spellcaster, and a epic level wild shape feat, maybe magic beast wild shape

DMM: persist the best buffs from the wizard and ranger spell lists you can find from 4th level and down and go crazy since you have unarmed stike damage of a 20th level monk

Frozen Wildshape, Assume Supernatural Ability and Frozen Hydra Wildshape with some casting of Lions Pounce (or whatever that Pounce spell from SC is) is always a nice start :)
