a "Haste Animal" spell
« on: March 14, 2009, 12:40:42 PM »
I don't think this is a spell already, at least not in any source I've seen. Basically I was thinking of the haste spell but only for animals and maybe beasts or other types. A buff for mounts, animal companions and/or familiars. Maybe not so much for combat but movement. Suggestions? I was thinking level 2.

Why bother when Haste can all ready affect them and the entire party in one casting?

Thinking of a low level speed buff, my campaign is kinda heavily based on movement, its a big world and lots of land in between places. Low level spell would allow them to travel more places earlier. I suppose there is phantom steed but its level 3, haste also. This spell would be more of a flavor thing then a optimization thing.
How about I come up with something a little more concrete and post that, still would like some ideas about it.

Haste only lasts 1 round per level. You want something like Longstrider, but castable on other creatures (it is normally self only). A ranger or druid could already cast this on their animal companion, but a 2nd level version with "creature touched" would certainly be fine.

Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.

If you're looking for something to aid in long term travel, you could make a low level buff (maybe 1st level) that can only affect animals and lasts 24 hours.  Have it keep the animals from getting fatigued from forced marches, effectively allowing them to travel far in a single day, but their actual movement rate wouldn't increase, so it wouldn't make for a good combat buff.

I think with those limitations, you could pull it off with a 1st level spell.
