The way I look at it is, is it worth a feat? You can always get Obtain Familiar. That's even a better familiar that way, since nonwizard levels generally don't advance familiars. But yeah, it is a tradeoff. But you gain an ability nobody else in the game has.

Another dirty trick to keep in mind is that being a prohibited school doesn't actually stop you from *preparing* spells, just putting them into your spellbook. You can also put spells into your spellbook before you can cast them, provided you find the appropriate scroll and can make the spellcraft check. So pre-load on any spells from your incantatrix school.

Finally, look up the Otyugh Hole. It is a magical location in comp scoundrel. Spend a week in in and get Iron Will free. Costs 3k, but totally worth it.

At level 5, take a long while off and cast secret page a buncha times so fill out your spellbook with Evocations, go Incantatrix, and blast away!
Hood - My first answer to all your build questions; past, present, and future.

Speaking of which:
Don't even need TO for this.  Any decent Hood build, especially one with Celerity, one-rounds [Azathoth, the most powerful greater deity from d20 Cthulu].
Does it bug anyone else that we've reached the point where characters who can obliterate a greater deity in one round are considered "decent?"

OOC-well for that matter he could just ride on my sword, that's about 15' ;)
OOC - That's what SHE said!  But, otherwise, that works for me, if you guys are willing.

Incantatrix specifically says you can still cast spells from your new prohibited school that you had in your spellbook before you entered Incantatrix.

Spellthief is a common entry for Unseen Seer builds, coupled with the Master Spellthief feat.

Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.

If you can, go Rogue1/Wiz4/Mindbender1/Wiz+1.  Dump Archmage and Sevenfold; they're too feat-intensive for casual use.

You could go Rogue1/Conjurer4/Mindbender1/Conjurer+1/Unseen Seer8/Arcane TricksterX.  You need Practiced Spellcaster, but this gets you spells the same level a Sorcerer would.  I only recommend Unseen Seer for arcane rogues.

If you greatly want Mindsight and Incantatrix, I advise Gray Elf Domain Wizard5/Mindbender1/Incantatrix10/X4.

Mind bender really a must?  I've honestly always enjoyed topping off my incantatrix builds with Spellguard.  2 meta magic feats, a generic caster level bump, a extrordinary spell aim-like ability, and the ability to transfer personal spells as touch spells.  All the more reason for your party to love you, aside from spontaneously chaining massive buffs onto them. :)

Definitely do the Grey elf generalist wizard with racial sub 1/3 hummingbird transmutation domain wizard 5, incant 10 part, though.  It's about as close to a staple of 3.5 wizardry as you can get.

He needs to take Practiced spellcaster at 3 to get mindsight by 6 if he has rogue levels.  Mindbender requires CL 5.

If he only has 1 rogue level, he's fine. You pick your class before you pick your feats and skills.

no, no, MINDBENDER requires CL 5.  Wiz5/mindbender1 gets you mindsight at level 6.  Rogue1/Wiz4 does not get you into mindbender.  You can go Rogue 1/Wiz+PrC7/Mindbender1 to get it at 9 however.

You're right. I thought he was going Rogue1/Wiz5, then Mindbender. I didn't actually look at the build.  :blush I guess you could retrain the Practiced Spellcaster to Mindsight afterwards, though. ;)
