The boy peers toward the base of a cluster of trees, and says "I think he may have stuck it down there."  You move aside a few branches, and indeed you find it cunningly hidden in the hollow of one of the trees.  You find a backpack containing a few items you would expect for someone traveling, foodstuffs and rations, a snare, but you also find two polished sticks, and a letter with the wax seal broken.

Breado looks at the letter saying "this may prove insightful I recommend that all of you step back a ways this could have an exploding Rune in it for any unwanted eyes." as he then waits a moment to see of the others will be moving back he opens the letter to read the contents.

You note a crescent shape pressed into the broken wax seal on the parchment as you flip it open.  It is a simple letter written in the Rashemi tongue, though a few of the phrases seem slightly obscure, as though Rashemi was not the author's native tongue.

Quote
Wise Witches of Rashemen,

Thor grant that the spirits of your realm be at peace, and that trolls trouble your people less than expected.
I have seen signs and portents of late, and fear the agreement of old must be upheld at the turning of the yuletide.  We have known the waning was nearing its zenith, and come midwinter we must ready ourselves to hold the seals and destroy the tide that will trickle through.  I shall see you at the waning of the seventh moon.

Good hunting,
The Nentyarch
I think Knowledge (Nobility and Royalty) should be appropriate for the Nentyarch in this region, shouldn't it? :P
Taking 10 gives Hergierr a 17.

Also, maybe Knowledge (PLanes) would be appropriate, given some of the content: 1d20+3=5
Thorgrim listens intently until the end and when no one immediately answers, he says, "I do not get what it's about, but it sounds like a message."

Echoing Hergierr's thoughts about the Nentyarch, Darvador says, "Well, its from the Druid ruler of the wild Geats to the north, and it is an important message indeed.  He seems worried about the integrity of some type of seal during the winter festival of Yule.  I know the Hathran are always busy, and often absent, during that season, but I never could get out of them where they were or what they were doing."  He seems to ponder the situation for a moment, and glances back toward the troll's blood-spattered corpse as his eyes wander, lost in thought.  "There are folk-stories that the Yuletide was once plagued by fiends from Nilfheim's frosty realm.  I always thought they were merely told by the Hathran to keep us common folk away from their secret sites, but maybe the standing stones we were told to leave alone are indeed more than I thought.

"Then we'd better get this message to the Hathran as soon as possible. I could send it via a pigeon or raven... We could include a note about why the seal is broken on it, also."

Einar nods.  "Indeed, this message was meant for the Hathran and so to them it must be delivered."

"So I guess the closest one would be back at the village we just left, right? Mind if I take that, Beado?" Hergierr says.

He writes a message of his own on the back of this one from the Nentyar, then rolls the parchment back up and calls his summoned raven over to deliver it.
The message will be addressed to the Hathran back in the village. I think we met her, so Hergierr should remember her name. It will read something like

"Honored Mistress,
Please see that the message on the backside of this note is delivered to those of your order who will know of what it speaks. My party and I intercepted it from a shapeshifting troll who had presumably waylaid its original bearer, along with a couple of young shepherd boys. We recently set out from your village to try and find Einar's kin. Hopefully we will return once our mission is finished, but this message seemed too important to gamble with. Odin's blessing upon you.

Sincerely,
Hergierr"

Should I make a diplomacy or some other check for the note?
A seal?
To hold of what?
What Tide?
I'm not sure I want to know.

It sounds important. Sending it by bird would be the swiftest way, it seems the wisest choice.

He absentmindedly spins a silver piece between his fingers as he ponders.

You place the letter in the grasp of your raven, and it alights and heads north, back toward the village you left.  You periodically check through its sight as you all begin to look at the other contents of the pack, and it flies straight and true, unhindered in its flight.

As Johan ponders, he begins to hum a light tune.  He suddenly stops spinning his coin and tries to hide the surprise on his face.  I didn't hear a voice humming along in my head with me, I didn't!  The giggle Johan hears lessens that resolve, though.
No need for a diplomacy check.  You took 10 and did beautifully.  ;)
"What's that tune you were humming? It's... catchy. I swear I've heard it before somewhere..." Being distracted by the task of readying the letter, Hergierr forgets to hide his black tongue from view as he speaks.

"Ah, did I do that out loud?"
Johan tries to shift his surprise to a mask of embarrassment, but it is evident to everyone that something startling flew through his mind.
Quickly returning the coin to his pouch, he makes a vague gesture with the other hand.
"I don't know where I got it from, perhaps something I picked up at the Althing. There was a lot of music after all, it could be from there."

Speaking silently in his mind, he asks the question he don't know if he want it to be answered or not:
Having fun?

Seeing Hergierrs' tounge, he does his best to not look startled. Too concerned with recent events, however, leads to his less that successful act.
A black tounge? This man grows more mysterious by the day. First a raven he can spiritwalk with, then this? This is interesting to say the least

"So, errh, did the message reach the Witches safely?"

But before Hergierr has to answer, Thorgrim unwittingly saves him. "I imagine so. Rangers like Hergierr often keep pet animals, and teach them various tricks."

After looking at Johan a little incredulously, Hergierr merely shakes his head a bit, and sends the raven on its way with the message. Then he says "Well, I guess we can get back to our business then."

Einar rolls his eyes impatiently.  "The message is sent, why are we just standing here?"
