Apparently Thorgrim is twitchy-er than most of the others.
1d20+2=10 I don't know that Hergierr will actually do anything, though, unless the old man or someone else starts beating the boy or something.
Thorgrim takes a step forward and draws his weapon to look fierce. "It isn't nice to steal, kid."
He tried to think of what to say... "So give it back, now! ...please?"

Johan picks up the half loaf of bread he had taken earlier from Grimolf and waves it. He shouts out, making sure the thief can't miss the offer. "Take this one instead, you can have it as long as you give that one back."
Then he smiles, though he keeps an eye on the old man, to make sure things don't escalate too far.

Those who steal bread do it to survive. Life have probably already punished that boy enough, but the old should keep his bread. He also needs it. I just hope things don't get rough.
I don't know if that constitutes a Diplomacy roll or not, but if it does:

The youngster picks up his heel as if to take a step in your direction, eyeing your group warily as he silently extends a gangly, sallow hand toward the loaf you hold forth while clutching the stolen one tightly to his chest.  He seems unsure of approaching you, giving an especially wary eye to Thorgrim.

Hergierr says quietly to the boy "It's ok brother. We understand that you're just hungry. Take Johan's bread and give the old man back his. Then we can talk more about what's going on with you. OK?"

Then he says to the Old Man. "We will take care of the boy. From the looks of him, he's starving. We have bread enough for both you and him. Want to come break some together?"

Einar just stands there quietly, watching what is going on.  He has never been good at dealing with those not of a lodge, and doesn't want to say anything that might ruin whatever the others are doing.

Thorgrim backs down. Perhaps a tongue that spoke words of honey would be better than the threat of thorns.

As Hergierr begins to speak, he can sense that the short one is on the verge of fleeing.  He hastens his words, but still seems to bring an air of calm to the youth.  The child's eyes, peering out from his scarfed and shrouded head, seem to relax.  He walks slowly up to Johan, careful to keep from being surrounded, and extends his empty hand toward the loaf held out to him.  When he has a firm grip he yanks it away while chucking the old man's loaf up to Johan.  He quickly turns and begins to scurry away into the underbrush at the side of the road.
The above is all assuming Johan, et al don't want to resist his snatching of the loaf.  He begins running away and is 10 feet from Johan and his pony, directed toward the edge of the road.  I'll put a map up later if I need to, but won't bother if you're just going to let him run away.  If you want to try to stop him, lets reroll initiative, since it's a new matter of reaction time.
Catching the thrown loaf, Johan just watches as the youngling starts to depart. Discretly muttering a few words of power and gesturing at the bread in his hands, he then turns slowly and starts walking towards the old man.

"Here you go, your loaf is back where it belongs. I hope its flavour hasn't completly gone, but perhaps since it's back it might taste a bit better. Food is scarce in some places, we all just have to make do with what we got"

Not that I've ever going to go hungry with this much coin, but I remember how starvation tastes.
A bit more kindness in the world goes a long way.
Cast Prestidigation on the bread, heating it up some and adding some flavour to it. Nothing to much, since the common folk won't eat bewitched bread if the quality goes up noticeably, but I think the old man deserves at least something for his troubles.
Thorgrim wasn't much for religion, but he was sure that one of them had a prayer that went "Give us this day our daily bread, and bless our weapons, that they may tear apart our enemies."

The small thief scurries to the cover of the woodland underbrush, and quickly disappears behind the trees and shrubs.  The old man thanks Johan for returning his loaf, and the travelers continue on their way north.  Soon the creaking sounds of their wagon wheels fades into the noise of the late-morning forest.  You start south once more, and encounter nothing but travelers through the remainder of the day.  The oncoming travelers provide a small hinderance to your advance, but you make your way.  As the sun begins its slow slide to the northwest horizon and the dinner hour arrives, you see at the distance of your vision the altar to Thor which you had stopped at briefly the day before.

Thorgrim stops at the altar and prays to the god that was his namesake, thanking him for the strength he provided yesterday and for his continued blessing upon their group.

Hergierr waits for Thorgrim to finish his prayers and says "Well, we're getting close to the end of this thing at last. Let's be done with it."

Thorgrim finishes his thanks to Thor and the group continues on into the short twilight hours.  The urgency of the chase gone from your bones, you take a bit more time returning to the Thingvellir.  You break out of the forest as the sun's glow dims, obscured by the thick forest behind you.

As you approach the Thingvellir you catch sight of some spirit, perhaps it was a telthor, but quickly cross over the trodden line of wood ash encircling the Thingvellir, and know you are safe within its bounds.  There is a single tent yet erected upon the stone foundations left like skeletal remains scattered about the area, and at your approach a masked woman emerges and gestures toward the large rock in the center of the skeletal metropolis.

She mounts the mass of the Law Rock and extends her hand toward the ring of runes etched into the rock's top.  "What of Grimolf's fate?  Have you evidence of his end?"

Hergierr takes it upon himself to be the spokesperson for the group, seeing no one else jump to the occasion "He died defending this woman's honor from trolls, a true warrior of Rasheman. We burned his body and sent his spirit to Valhalla."

"It is well the Norns saw fit to weave the skein of Grimolf's life to a warrior's end.  Perhaps the bonds of our people will not falter after all."  She pauses for a few moments, looking over the lot of you before continuing.  "I would ask that a few of you remain, so that I can glean some more details of this battle in which Grimolf's thead was ended, but there was an urgent message that arrived to us in Urling last evening that concerns one of you.  Please, if you will join me at my tent..."

She is pleasant in her request, but her voice holds no room for arguments as she descends the steep stairs cut into the side of the Law Rock and proceeds across the green toward the remnants of the Hathran quarter.  You follow her back to her tent, where you find a tall bearded man with red hair wearing the heavier armor of outlanders and apparently waiting for your arrival.  He shows proper deference to the Hathran and proffers a folded sheet of vellum to the masked Wychlaran.  "Beado brought this news of a raid at the Wall," she says as she hands the note to Einar.  Raising her eyes from the note now in your hand, up to your eyes, she continues, "It appears your young cousin was chasing after a few loose sheep and came upon a scouting party of the Invaders who ventured beyond the Wall.  He was taken captive and brought south of the Wall before anyone but the other shepherds knew anything was amiss.  When your kinsmen learned of it, they crossed the Wall at night, hoping to rescue him.  This missive was sent the next morning, so I do not yet know if they were successful or not."

You painfully read through the note, but find the only additional clue it provides beyond than what the Hathran had already relayed to you was the name of your cousin, Reinn.

"Beado has expressed a desire to accompany you to the Wall, and as his business with us is done, I see no reason to dismiss his request."
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.
