[d20 Modern] As-yet Unnamed Shadow Chasers Game
« on: February 19, 2009, 02:02:49 AM »
I was perusing my d20 Modern Core Rulebook this evening, and was inspired to start a Shadow Chasers campaign.  As I don't have a RL gaming group, I came here to see if anyone was interested. The setting will be very strictly Shadow Chasers, so magic will be strictly limited to the Shadow Slayer and Occultist AdCs. PCs can expect to do a good bit of fighting, but (hopefully) with plenty of opportunities for character development.  The campaign will start before the PCs have been introduced to Shadow, but don't expect that to last very long.

I am planning on making this a 2 PC game, so I'll take two players.  I'll give people a week from today (that would be the 26th) to post characters, and I'll decide on my players then.  I am willing to run this as a solo, and if only 2 sign up, then lucky for those two.

Now, down to the nitty gritty Character creation details.
Stats: either 4d6 drop lowest or 28 PB
Starting Level: 2
Only Humans
All CRB classes are available, plus Shadow Slayer and Occultist.  Any non-CRB classes may or may not be approved on a case by case basis.  (As long as it doesn't go against the Shadow Chasers theme, I'll probably be cool with it.)
Unearthed Arcana AdCs: Allowed except for the following: Mystic, Techno Mage, Thrasher, and Wildlord
Wealth: Max Wealth -2  (So take max rolls for levels one and two, and then subtract 2 from it.)
Action Points: half max

Don't forget, I'm only planning on taking 2 players.

How many D20 modern games do you need to be involved in?  :P

You're going to kill me by making me play too many games.   :P

I say this because Occultist is one of my favorite Advanced Classes in that system, heh.

I actually think I'm going to have to pass on this game.  I think I'm at my max.

Don't have the book for Occultist/Shadow slayer.  Is taking one of those obligatory or virtually so?

I have a Reporter type character for d20 modern bouncing in my head.

Occultist and Shadow slayer are both in the Core Rulebook (in the FX chapter, I believe) and they are also in the MSRD, which can be found here in Advanced Classes II. But I wouldn't say you would be required to choose any specific classes.  The main focus of the campaign will of course be on battling Shadow, so those classes abilities would help, but will by no means be necessary.

Shadow Slayers FTW!  :D

I'll have to think of what kind of character to play, would I be able to go with Shadow Hunter from UA?

Eddie Cross is a private investigator who works mainly missing person cases, and other situations where more discretion is needed than the police usually provide.

Gonna throw Eisen "The German" Hart up here, but one quick thing (since I read the rules long ago, but have to review); character classes have no armor proficiencies automatically, right? So, for light armor, I'd have to take a feat to get the full bonus?

And what level do y'think this will go to? Cause if it's 10 or so, it'll change my feat selection...

yeah, to get the full armor bonus from armor, you have to have the appropriate proficiency feat. armor have two bonuses, a proficiency bonus, and a non-proficiency bonus.

as to how long it will go, I would love for it to go for a long time.  As long as people keep posting, I'll keep running it.
