[Star Wars Saga Edition] Across the Stars
« on: February 14, 2009, 02:31:25 PM »
First off, I'd like to apologize for the title, but then again, it was good enough for John Williams.

So this is obviously the start of a PbP Star Wars Saga Edition game. I'm gauging interest right now, but I'm confident there'll be sufficient interest to start a game. (Hopefully posting rates will be good.)

I haven't decided what era the game will start in, and that'll probably affect the sourcebooks allowed. I may decide to throw it open to every sourcebook, but there'd probably be some conflict there...We'll see. I'd like some input on what era(s) you'd like to play in so I can get the sourcebook question resolved, because I know that'll put a damper on character creation otherwise. You may want to delay creating your characters until we get that fixed.

-Starting level is 5th. (Don't forget to increase two ability scores by 1 at 4th level.)
-Wealth: Take the maximum amount for your class's starting money and multiply it by 5. (Multiclassers, use whichever class would yield the most credits--and yes, the Wealth talent is permitted, just add it on top of what this method would yield.)
-32 point generation for ability scores, rather than the 25 points given normally.

I guess that's it. Ask me if you have any questions.

I own none of the books, but I may watch or attempt to steal them and toss a character.

If I can find enough time for character creation, I definitely want in :D
(I think I can have a character done next weekend...)

Also, J0lt will definitely want to know about this :)

Who else on these boards likes SWSE? I'm pretty sure Kuroimaken and Tsuyoshikentsu do. (Radical Taoist definitely does, but he's not here often.)

I'm not sure...

I've had the books for a while but haven't had the chance to try the system so far.
I know J0lt at least DMs a game IRL (sent him a PM btw)...

Thinking about a somewhat Force-sensitive gunner of sorts, not sure if it's possible to effectively add to your skill in firing rifles with Force talents though, haven't ever really used the system...

Probably going human, maybe Wookiee...

as much as I don't want to start another PbP and build another character, it is SWSE, which is excellent, and I already have an Ithorian Jedi roughly sketched out on myth-weavers, so count me in, tentatively.  As for era, it doesn't matter much to me, since all I have is a .pdf of the Core Rulebook anyway.

Era doesn't matter that much to me either...
Sorry, forgot to mention that :embarrassed

Possible era options are (named for WotC's sourcebooks):

Knights of the Old Republic (KotoR, obviously--I don't imagine this will be too popular.)
The Clone Wars (post-Episode I to pre-Episode III)
The Force Unleashed (post-Episode III to pre-Episode IV or somewhere thereabouts)
The Rebellion (pre-Episode IV to post-Episode VI)

I'm not really partial to a New Jedi Order campaign...I'd have to work something up for the Yuuzhan Vong, and I was never very fond of them, but I'm not too picky.

Preferences?

Thanks for the headsup, Bowen!
I've got 2 characters that I've been itching to play:
A Bothan spy, or a female Twi'lek mercenary/pirate

If you run a Clone Wars game, I'd probably want to play a Jedi.
I'd rather not deal with any NJO shenanigans either, the Yuuzhan Vong were too Star Trek-like for my taste.

I don't think that this will put me over my PbP limit, but it'll get me damn close.  However, I'm willing to put my hat in.  I'm up for any era, and I've looked through the books but never played Saga Edition so I'm not 100% familiar with the rules.  How will you decide who's in the game?

Anyone have a list of SWSE book titles for me to 'acquire'? :D

I'm thinking about something like an ex-military man turned mercenary at the moment...

I agree on the Yuuzhan Vong probably not being a great idea for a campaign.

Nanshork--We have five interested people right now (six if you count woodenbandman, but he may end up just watching), so this is probably the group. I usually go on a first-come, first-served basis. Don't worry, I can handle six of you. ;)

Bowen--I have a list you can check out:
Starships of the Galaxy
Threats of the Gakaxy
Scum and Villainy
The Force Unleashed Campaign Guide
The Clone Wars Campaign Guide
Knights of the Old Republic Campaign Guide

Excellent :D

Currently going with either a Wookiee melee character or a human gunner of sorts, specializing in rifles...

Any optimization tips for SAGA? :P

By the way, how do we determine HP?
Maximum? Average (5 at even levels/6 at uneven levels for D10 for example) at each level after first? Average +0.5 (6 for D10 for example) at each level after first?

Saga works pretty well without D&D levels of optimization.  A well-rounded character seems to work best.
I tend to design my characters to function adequately in 2 specific situations:  on-world encounters, and ship-to-ship encounters.

Any thoughts?
Any tips for a 'rifleman'?
