Wait... I can't trust everything I see on the internet and TV?

In Wikipedia, I trust.

Well, to be honest, the Japanese believe and do so much bizarre nonsense that I tend to be overly trusting of reports of bizarre things they supposedly do.

I tend to be just mildly skeptical (as opposed to very skeptical, which is my usual response to freaky shit) when it comes to the Japanese. I KNOW they can get VERY freaky.

I always heard that the Japanese took the various stories of biblical figures doing superhuman things and as a result the Japanese see Christians as sorcerers.

...Where'd that come from?

Far as I know, the only reason the Japanese forbade Christianism within their country was political - it was assumed that allowing multiple, unrelated religions under the same roof was akin to asking for revolution to start.

That'd I believe, be the consequence of having none but the most cursory of exposure to the religion, and the exotic makes for some fine stories to tell.
The mind transcends the body.
It's also a little cold because of that.

"Just what do you think the moon up in the sky is? Everyone sees that big, round shiny thing and thinks there must be something round up there, right? That's just silly. The truth is much more awesome than that. You can almost never see the real Moon, and its appearance is death to humans. You can only see the Moon when it's reflected in things. And the things it reflects in, like water or glass, can all be broken, right? Since the moon you see in the sky is just being reflected in the heavens, if you tear open the heavens it's easy to break it~"

This will enlighten you somewhat.
