Iron Chef Optimization #3
« on: December 07, 2008, 01:11:53 PM »
Here we go again! Caelic has been AWOL for a long while now, so I'm starting this up again!
Quote from: Caelic's Post
Judges:
Competitors:

Updated Rules
1. Menu: For most challenges, the "secret ingredient" will be drawn from Core plus Completes.  There will, from time to time, be special challenges that showcase secret ingredients from other books--for example, the XPH.

2. Kitchen: Competitors will be free to use any official 3.5 rulebook in constructing their builds.  Dragon magazine and Unearthed Arcana are discouraged, because of the potential for controversy or unfamiliarity; if you feel you need to use those sources, please contact me.

3. Cooking Time: Contests will be announced a week in advance, to give people time to sign up.  Following a week of sign-ups, the "secret ingredient" will be announced.  Contestants will have one week to create their builds and email them to the Chairman (most likely me, at least for the first few.) Me for this one  Builds will then be posted simultaneously, to avoid copying. I will be giving two weeks for each contest, no exceptions.
4. Judging will be based on the following criteria, with each build rated from 1 (very poor) to 5 (exemplary) in each area: Originality, Power, Use of Secret Ingredient.

5. Builds will be posted anonymously, in order to avoid the potential of bias towards a particular competitor.

6. Please don't post or speculate on possible builds until the "reveal," in order to avoid spoiling the surprise if a particular competitor is producing a build along those lines.

7. Leadership is banned; we're producing a meal, not a seven-course banquet for a hundred diners.

This secret ingredient will not be an ingredient, per se, but A Holiday. Any holiday. If its not well known, provide a link to info. Deadline is midnight Dec 31, EST, a little more than three weeks, considering the holidays.

We still need a judge or two.

I'll volunteer to judge, since I was supposed to for the last one.

likes:
- underused classes/mechanics/systems
- item/gear independence
- monstrous PCs

dislikes:
- full casters

These are by no means requirements for the contest. Judging of course will be impartial and based on the quality of build, but I think it'd be interesting to know what the judges' personal tastes are.

I'll compete as well as long as we are provided a long enough time period (a week I just can not do with college work).

I'll give it a go, if it's interesting.
Read, every day, something no one else is reading. Think, every day, something no one else is thinking. Do, every day, something no one else would be silly enough to do. It is bad for the mind to be always part of unanimity.
