Quick SW: Saga question. (Possible spoiler alert?)
« on: November 20, 2008, 07:54:37 PM »
Can you rotate or manipulate objects with Move Object and/or its lesser cousin?

Evidences seem to point to yes, I believe.

1) Yoda rotates Luke's X-Wing as he takes it out of the swamp (I think so, at least. Could be a mistake on my part with camera angles and all).

2) Luke's lightsaber flips handle-size up when he uses the Force to pull it out of the snow at the wampa's cave in Empire Strikes Back.

3) Qui-gon Jinn uses the Force to alter a die roll in Episode I.

4) Dooku tears a big-ass machine off its hinges in Episode II to crush Anakin and Obi-wan. He does so by ripping the upper hinges first and tilts it in their direction (which demonstrates a relatively good control over the object itself).

5) In the Clone Wars cartoon, that bald Sith chick bangs Clone Troopers' heads together and drags one of them by one foot across a large section of the jungle (Clone Wars is the source of a lot of evidence for it, too).

6) The Force Unleashed game. You can tear a repeating blaster off a tripod and USE IT TO SHOOT PEOPLE WHILE IT FLOATS. (Arguably a use of Kinetic Combat). During a combat sequence against Maris Brood, you can float her while you use her own guard shotos against her.

So what do you say?

Rotating, yes.  Manipulating really depends on how finely you want to do it.

The question mostly arose from an instance of happenstance on one of our Saga sessions, where I'd successfully grabbed hold of an AT-ST via Move Object and told the DM I'd flip it so it fell on its head (and thus wouldn't get back up). The DM said no because he felt it wasn't within the power's capabilities.

So long as you made the DC to move an object like that, you should be able to turn it over and drop it, yeah.
