Talk Nerdy to Me
« on: November 10, 2008, 01:16:28 PM »
CPU? Ooh baby! You know just what to say!

I need to take a placement test for my new school and it's so I can skip out of a "computer science" class. Basically I have to be able to use a computer and understand how it works. While I generally know how to use a computer (and how to break one) I'm unfamiliar with a lot of the terms and vocab associated with said computer.

The class description is as follows: "This course explores foundational computer concepts along iwth hands-on use of the Internet and popular office applications. Students complete projects utilizing word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software. Course topics include identifying the major sub-systems of a personal computer, practical use of a computer in a networked environment and exercises for effectively searching the Internet."

So... if any of you have any tips or ideas on how I could study for this test, I would greatly appreciate some input.

It's a 45 minute/hour long test that's completely scantron. I'm not allowed to look at the computer (WTF?) and if I don't pass this test, I can't go to this school (sayeth my father). Heh. No pressure, right?

So, as my topic demands: talk nerdy to me, baby!  :marx

People usually think that I've lost my mind. I haven't lost it, I know exactly where it is: the gutter.

My body is a temple. That is why I make chocolate sacrifices in it every day.

Still, it's like you're a living, breathing "Lists of Stuff" thread for the entire internetz.

my mrs just finished here intro to computers class. what a load of bollocks.

my first intro to computers class was nothing but 9 weeks of vocabulary. never turned on a pc in that class.

the ACE CLEP test for Intro i took in 98? was all about BASIC. omg that was easy. 10 print "win"

the class my mrs took was all MS office. build spreadsheets, make flyer's, slides shows, access db, combine them.

out 'there' on the interwebs, there is a company that makes product called CBT Nuggets. its like video professor.

i would use the Nuggets to test prep.
