FFXII was kinda meh for me. It just didn't really feel like an FF.

Oh, and X-2 is an abomination that shan't be spoken of again. I DON'T enjoy playing "Charlie's angels meet FF".

The only thing going for FFXII is the fact that you fight all 13 zodiac beasts....

And then use them to kick the crap out of everyone else. Shame the summon system REALLY sucked in that game.

QFT.

How the hell are you supposed to get petrified to activate Zodiark's ultimate? That just plain sucks....

..... speaking about it got me pumped up to create the zodiac beasts in D&D.... just like I got psyched up to make the Major Arcana BBEGs when I played Persona 3....

Creating those sounds like fun :)

Say, anyone have some basic descriptions for someone not that familiar with FF?
A friend of mine is into FF and I think it would be fun to incorporate some of it's elements/creatures into my campaign :)

First of all: change a griffon or a hippogriff's name to chocobo and make it look like a Large yellow chicken... /jk

Seriously.... who is the person not that familiar with FF? You, Bowen? There's 2 main lines in FF - those related to a world called Ivalice and those who don't (just for the record, the zodiac beasts exists in the Ivalice world)...

How is your campaign? High level technology (as in Eberron)? If so, you could try creating some monsters that look like huge mechas (or take the Warforged Titan's stats) and call them Weapons (as in Emerald Weapon, Ruby Weapon, Ultima Weapon...),

Other ideas:

-pick a red dragon, boost its HD to heavens, turn it black and call it Bahamut, and when he uses its breath weapon, call it Mega Flare...
-use FF style magic (pick Radiant Assault (SpC), make it look like a huge light blast instead and call it Ultima or Holy, Spell Turning to Reflect, Mage Armor to Protect, Finger of Death to Death, use Baleful Polymorph to transform to frog and call it Frog, tweak Meteor Swarm to be a single sphere of fire and call it Meteor, and so on...)

I'm dried out of ideas.... will post more here soon...

EDIT: added more ideas for spells...

None of them have since like FFV.
Starting with FFVI, they started going all scifi.
I may be a purist, but IMO the best FF game is still the original.

Guess I have a higher tolerance, then. For me, FFVI and VII were pretty damn good.

VIII sucked major balls, IX was meh, X was tolerable, and it all went downhill from there.

I did enjoy 6, but it didn't have the same feel as the originals.

But FFVII...  Cloud...  So F*@king lame...  :banghead

FFVII gave me my favourite argument against the newer games of the series:

Cloud's lameness is counterbalanced by Tifa. (Pun intended.)

Helping to further ressurrect the thread: no matter what technological level the world is in, going into ruins of an ancient civilization is ALWAYS an excuse to pit the players against mecha. ALWAYS.

Don't forget to put an airship and someone with a relatively important role in the story called Cid.

I have always wanted to play a game that is kind of like God Hand for the PS2. You fighting a bunch of guys in silly over the top ways using nothing but your hands and feet. Obviously it would be hard to make that happen since God Hand was a single player game and most PnP games require multiple people. Could probably do it easily in Exalted though. :X

God Hand is essentially a massive Hokuto no Ken parody, right down to the main character.

Y'know the sad thing is XI had the best story of the lot of them and nobody has played it...
my ranking:
XI
VII
VI
IX
X
VIII
I
IV
III
II
V
XII
XIII

This. Plus Fucking one.

Also, I guess Prime infected me with his mecha fetish.... because I'm starting to get hooked at Super Robot Wars (even if this one has less robots and more... from something else  :P)

Playing this one and his antecessor made me thnk about a lot of NPCs for some campaign I'm about to join...
