I'd be upset because I didn't like Obama, but I disliked McCain just as much.  I couldn't pick a lesser of the two evils this election.  At least Obama is a good speaker though.

Congratulations us!!!

I was all prepared to flee to Canada too... This is a good day!

So bets on Obama choosing McCain as Secretary of Defense?

X-Codes' Projected Final Score: 379 - 159, +/- 3 votes.

I expected those 527 ads and they didn't come.

I expected polling place hankey pankey and it didn't come.

I expected some national event to swing the vote back towards John McCain, and it didn't come.

Holy crap, the world might not be quite the hellhole I thought it was.

EDIT: I'd say no, Meg.  Obama won't put McCain in his cabinet, and probably not many other politicians at all.  I remember Obama getting asked about what his cabinet might look like before the election and he ran off the names of a lot of professionals, not politicians.  That's kinda surprising to me.

EDIT2: Of course, if you're talking about the parallels between the election and the last season of The West Wing... I just kinda shudder a little when I think about it.

Of course Obama was going to win.  There was no doubt in my mind.  This election was set in stone the minute Barack Obama was the Democratic candidate.

I predicted a 58% Obama-42% McCain victory (numbers pulled out of my ass, and rough).  What were the final tallies?

EDIT: Obama had about 68%.

Popular vote is pretty tight (3-4 points with almost 70% in), but electoral votes are more than 2:1 in favor of Obama.

As for knowing Obama would win... I just couldn't do it.  The entire time I've been allowed to vote has proven somewhat disappointing (see 2004).

I'll certainly be making excuses in class tomorrow to not do work because we should be celebrating, that's for sure.

I was surprised by the size of victory.  I thought McCain was going to win Ohio and Florida (enough to put money on it...)

Says the guy who's younger than most people here (if I recall correctly - and I intend no offense by that). ;)

Zeal is not quite right - it's simply joy for me. :D
(I couldn't even vote because I didn't get the absentee ballot and I'm not in the US.)

Now, while I am quite happy of his election, I fear a bunch of angry rednecks will take the matter in their own hands, as with JFK and Luther King.

I expected polling place hankey pankey and it didn't come.

It absolutely did.  Around here (heavily democratic area) the local democratic office as well as two polling stations were vandalized, including glue in the locks to try to keep them from opening.  There's also been consistant reports of the electronic voting machines switching people's vote to republican repeatedly, and that's from around the country.

It just wasn't enough.

Coworkers.  290, I thought McCain would pick up more, but I suppose the extreme prejudice against Bush really created a mandate.

Yeah, me too. I did notice that he was surrounded by what appeared to be plates of bullet proof glass tonight at his speech, though. So maybe they've got it covered.  ;) I hope so. I really feel like I've seen a major page of history unfold tonight. I'm really interested to see what he and the democratic congress can do.

I'm glad that they don't have a filibuster proof majority, although I hope that the Republican minority doesn't resort to that every single time.  Otherwise, if you thought Obama was "leftist", then you have a whole 'nother thing coming in the Congress.

There was a bit of that on the other side as well.  Note the Black Panthers intimidating voters in West Philly.

In all honesty, though, there's a long history of that kind of crap all around.  It's sad, but a fact of life when people get this worked up over politics.

I'm rather dejected and sad that America fell for Obama's line of bullshit, but I can't say I'm a die-hard McCain fan either.  I didn't much care for any of them, but I'd rather have a VP that terrifies me and a President that only mildly annoys me, than both a VP and President who terrify me.  Unfortunately, it looks like we're stuck with Obama bin Biden and the Reid/Pelosi gang.  If you thought the Republicans could screw up the country with a lock on two houses of government (and I'm not denying they had a hand in doing just that), wait till you see what these assholes will bring us.

Time to buy high-cap magazines in bulk against the coming bans.
