Craft Construct rules

Do they spell it out anywhere???

I tried making one like a magic item like it suggests, but I ended up with 132,000 GP for a 2 HD golem.  Obviously not right.

Most golems have the rules for their creation in their Monster entries.  There's also the Effigy template that you can apply to various stuffs.

There really aren't any cohesive rules for golem building, and there's virtually no room for customization of your golems (you can advance HD and apply appropriate benefits, but that's it).

There's a Dragon Magazine issue with golem addons in it.  The best is easily Rudimentary Intelligence; slap that on any effigy creature and you've got basically the most customizable construct you could possibly build, and it will still be pretty absurdly expensive.

Which issue of Dragon would that be?

I asked because the MM says to see chapter 7 of the DMG, but it says nothing in chapter 7 about Golems.

I figured the cost would be the same as a continuous Magic Item (spell level x aster level x 2000 GP) but that doesn't pan out.

No idea.  It was a long time ago when someone told me.

Here's an old "Rules of the Game" article on WotC's site that discusses creating constructs and how much this costs (and how long it takes, the tools and materials needed, etc). Hope that helps.

I think it was 280. That was mentioned in this thread: http://forums.gleemax.com/wotc_archive/index.php/t-740572.html

Lokyin put a crazy amount of material together for Tsuyoshikentsu's CO game... that never got off the ground. Here is a link to one of the pages he made on the wiki for it: http://tsuyoshikentsu.pbwiki.com/Foundry

Edit: A link to another construct thread where Lokyin mentions Dragon 327: http://forums.gleemax.com/wotc_archive/index.php/t-943611

[spoiler]
A couple of water benders, a dike, a flaming arrow, and a few barrels of blasting jelly?

Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.
...thanks

I made some rules for especially expensive constructs for my campaign set in the world of Xeen.  Interestingly, the party fought all the constructs but the sky golems, though they fought in the golems against a dracolich.  They easily won since I forgot sky golems had grapple immunity from freedom of movement.
Hood - My first answer to all your build questions; past, present, and future.

Speaking of which:
Don't even need TO for this.  Any decent Hood build, especially one with Celerity, one-rounds [Azathoth, the most powerful greater deity from d20 Cthulu].
Does it bug anyone else that we've reached the point where characters who can obliterate a greater deity in one round are considered "decent?"

Grapple Immunity AND Freedom of Movement... *eek!* Um... To quote the Brave Sir Robin (and others of King Arthur's honored "ka-niggits")... "RUN AWAY! RUN AWAY!"  :lol

The party paladin and my wizard went KABOOM since self-destruct was on by default.  (He went down and it was a chain reaction, baby!)
