"Half? Did you take me for a fool? I didn't carry that much gold into a camp full of armed men without prior agreement. I'll be back in the morning with the gold, and if someone else happens to buy all the slaves tonight, or just the best of them, that's a risk I'll have to take."

You will pay me some money now as a sign of good faith. Otherwise, there is no deal. And we will charge you for their storage. Return with the dawn, then.

"Ten percent of the total, and I'll need to get some from my associates. And if you insist on charging for keeping them tonight, then we will pay that in the morning.

10 percent? Acceptable. I will be in the tent when you have the gold. He waves to the guards and departs.

Madoc heads over to the tent containing his comrades. Once inside, he speaks to them all. "I've reached a deal, but the slave master wants a deposit. It's sixty-eight gold, and I'm not carrying that much. If anyone would care to help me out, I'm sure the money will be recouped shortly."

"Hmm... I expected them to want to keep some of us here, but this is better.  We'll all be able to set up this plan and since we'd be removed from the vicinity there could be no suspicion of us when things go terribly wrong." Regema says with a grin.  He opens the satchel at his side and looks at the coin he has.  "Since we're going to recover it soon enough, I can give 23 gold to the cause."

Borloth stands there quietly, not caring at all about the plan and wondering why he just can't start killing people immediately.

Madoc takes thirteen gold pieces from his own pocket, then gathers the gold offered. "Thank you, friends. If this all goes well, it shall be returned many times over."

You have brought the gold, good. Good. He counts the coins then looks up at Madoc. It has been a pleasure doing business with you. I await your return tomorrow with the rest of the payment. Your slaves will be ready.

"And your payment will be likewise." With a slight bow of his head, he returns to his allies.

"The deposit is made; we had best go arrange the rest of the payments."

After the group leaves the camp and heads back to town, Regema commands his pet to follow them.  Once out of earshot, he begins speaking with the group.  "Alright, we've got an opportunity here to really cause some chaos.  What I think we should do is to return to the slaver camp, claiming that the villagers have killed our negotiator for dealing with the slavers and seized our gold, barricading themselves within the inn.  Whether or not they help us, eventually some of them will come back to this village in order to take some slaves of their own, anyway, and at that time we will be able to sneak some weapons in to the military slaves and, in the chaos, kill both them and the majority of the slavers that stay behind to guard them.  When the remaining slavers return from burning down the inn and slaughtering the villagers, we'll all be together again and should easily be able to wipe them out."

Regema grins with anticipation of the conclusion of his schemes.  "All that remains is who does what.  We should go about the town and locate any weapons the villagers haven't gathered up, and then go back and take some of the ones they have, letting them in on just enough of our plan so that they think they might survive the night."

What if I stay in the inn and help the slavers by killing off some villagers during the attack? I then get them to let me join them. Then, when you attack, I help cause chaos.

"They might buy it, Val'Malus, but if the villagers are well-prepared enough for the slavers to even pay attention to them, you may well be killed before you could get outside. Whether or not you care about dying, we'll need all hands on deck when the fighting starts to die down. That's when we need to be at our strongest.

"If I'm supposed to be killed by the villagers, perhaps I should stay behind and arrange their defenses to our liking?"

I say we weaken them by arranging a "strike team" of the villagers strongest, take them out into the forest, and kill them.

"The villagers are weak enough. We'll have a job on our hands if we need to have them hold the slavers off for any length of time. Freeing the trained slaves is a good trick, though...
Say, Val'Malus, would leading an army of vengeful slaves into an unsuspecting enemy's rear strike you as bloody enough? Someone's going to need to show the slaves where the slavers went."

"We really don't need to worry about the villagers defending themselves.  If they followed my instructions then they should have barricaded themselves at the inn, which means we need only improvise some firebombs from those bottles of liquor that Borloth is carrying and wait outside to keep them from escaping."

Borloth suddenly snaps back to reality and smiles.  "Burn the villagers, they are useless.  Any 'lucky' enough to escape won't be a problem."
