I say during the day. If we just set up a single trap I'd feel a bit better. It could be as simple as cutting down a tree and rigging it to fall.

We need to do this during the day because darkvision range is 60 feet. We need to make sure the townspeople see the illusion. So we need a big loud noise, and maybe some slain livestock to pull them out to us.
Mr. Unlucky stews in his insanity, muttering gibberish in the Giant's tongue and cutting his lips and gums as he gnaws on the end of his dagger impatiently.

Simell scratches at a few fleas, waiting as patiently as he can while the others prepare their trickery.
I'm pretty sure we're all set, all there is to do is split up, set a few small fires, and set up the image of the hill giant while some of us hide for ambush, and the others sneak into the village.
Dez begins gathering some dry grass and branches, sticking them into her sack for easy carrying.

"Hmm, this will make for a fine fire, given a little motivation." Small puffs of smoke waft out as she chuckles.
If anyone asks, I stole all of my magic items  :P
"Need some assistance with that?" Gwythyr asks, as he begins collecting some twigs and grass, bundling them up, and tossing them into his sack (which looks far handier than any sack anyone is likely to have seen before).

"So, Curyll, once we draw them out, you and I can sneak in to the town. I just hope that these three are well-enough equipped for the job." He looks at Simell, then Dez, then Unlucky, then looks at Curyll and himself. He tosses a bundle into his sack and reaches in and retrieves a single stick, still green while all else around it is dry, and it appears to be carved along its length with a design of a curling vine. He twirls it around for a second.

He looks at Curyll and says: "This should heal us. Problem is, if we split up, both groups can't have one." He turns to the group and says, more loudly, "Hey, you're all self sufficient, correct? I've only one wand that can heal us, and I don't know if any of you can use it."

"Well equiped?" Simell stands to his full height, stretching his four arms and slamming his tail onto the ground.  "You don't think I'm 'well-enough equipped'?" He asks the small man.

Curyll too gathers enough dry grass to start a fire with.

"Calm down, Simell, the young one was only asking out of concern for your wellbeing and the success of our mission." he says calmly.
"Weakness? Come test thy mettle against me, hairless ape, and we shall know who is weak!"

Boy. Gwythyr's 14.

That's all.
Gwythyr is startled by Simell, but he composes himself and nods at Curyll. "Besides, you surely see my concern, after what happened in our last brush with the townsfolk. We just need to make sure that everything falls into place."

Dez begins gathering the different bundles together.

"We should probably set just the one fire, and have your 'giant' come from the same direction. With any luck, the runner from yesterday will have reported Simell as a huge monster of a man, and the townsfolk will correlate the Giant with him. Best give this fabrication four arms, just in case.

We'll go set up the dry materials for the fire. You two get a head start to sneak into the town, then when you see smoke coming up over the horizon, wait a moment and set the illusion. We three will come around from the side and find our own way into the village while their warriors go out to thwart the 'Giant,' and by then it will be too late for them.
"

Gwythyr nods quietly and begins sneaking off to a good vantage point from where to set the illusion.
Hide (1d20+5=16)
Move Silently (1d20+12=15)

Wow, shitty rolls. Cunning Knowledge for a +4 on that move silently and Cunning Insight for a +3 on that Hide check, please. Also those have + umpteen billion on the DC for distance.
Mr. Unlucky squeals silently and tugs on his earlobes, then sits in place and waits.

Curyll hands Dez the last of the dried grass and then swiftly but stealthily follows Gwythyr.

"So now, we go to the nearest farmhouse. We want the fools to see this fire, so it can't be too far away. Neither can it be too close, or they may spot us coming away from it. Then... when they come to fight their imaginary enemies, our true hunt begins."

Dez finishes gathering the bundles and stalks off toward the farmhouse.
