Is there a better way than Arcane Disciple (Spell) or Extra Spell (feat) to add Alter self to the Beguilers capabilities?

If you can get a domain, and you are a changling, then you can snag the transformation domain.  Is there a prestige class which will grant an arbitrary domain to an arcane spellcaster?  (As opposed to the mediocre feat).  I seem to think it is possible ...

Good call there - the transformation domain is awesome.

Not sure about any arcane PrC that gets you a domain of your choice.  Wiz/Sorc have the sub levels, which doesn't help beguilers.  There might be an obscure Eberron PrC involving transformation though.
Doesn't the Arcane Disciple feat work?

He said he wanted some other method of getting it than that feat.

Again, Beguiler has UMD as a class skill and casts arcane spells, runestaff is a very easy way to do it.

As it stands I am using a magic Item to give access.  It is an amulet that is gives Alterself 3/d at CL (Custom Item).

Freezing Glance 6th level Enchantment spell from Frostburn should be added to the Advanced Learning consideration list.  It's Freakin' Enchantment and It's not freakin' [mind effecting].

Is Handbook_Writer still about?

Versatile Spellcaster is a feat that should be added to the feats section.  I know that in play I have found it to be VERY handy.  An extra 2-3 casting of your highest level spells are great!!!  This is expecially true of low levels burning 0 level spells or at higher levels when you got lower slots to burn.

It just gives and amazing amount of flexibility.

I've got a player who wants to either make a runestaff using Craft Staff or buy a custom runestaff and I cannot for the life of me figure out how the costs made in the runestaff section came to be.  The 3.5 DMG has details for crafting a regular 50-charge staff, and a discount if you want to make it so activating a spell costs double charges to reduce the cost.  Nothing for the "as spell used" activation type.  Neither of the two mechanics in the DMG add up to the numbers given in the Runestaff section nor in the Magic Item Compendium for that matter.  What is the actual crafting equation for Runestaffs?

DMG 3.5:
Highest level spell = 375 gp x caster level x spell level
Next highest spell = .75(375 gp) x caster level x spell level
X number of spells left = .25(X)(375 gp) x caster level x spell level(s)

Caster level must be the same for all spells in the staff and minimum caster level of 8 according to DMG 3.5.  If using the mechanic for double charge cost, multiple all above equations by 1/2.

pricing of runestaffs is explained on page 224 of MIC. Note also MIC errata that repriced some runestaffs.
