In The Movies [d20 Modern]
« on: October 12, 2008, 10:20:05 PM »
Last year scientists discovered a way to digitize humans. As a test of the limits of this, they created the SAMI, a super computer that digitizes humans and puts them in simulations of movies. The SAMI is being secretly tested at the Brandell Theater, but the testing has been suspended for data analysis. Today is simply a slow and rainy day, where several people are about to embark on a cinematic adventure.

This is a movie based game, with the characters being thrown into all sorts of movies (real and fake). The characters start as normal people but become a version of their favorite type of character in entertainment (Good list of examples at http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Characters).

Character Creation:
level 1
Starting Wealth: +18
38 Point Buy
All books
LA +0
PL 5 (Higher PL equipment can be requested)
Mage and Telepath are base classes for now (could change if it is unbalancing, somebody please inform me if it is)
No XP, level up when I say so

Please describe your characters normal appearance along with their movie persona. Stats represent the character's movie persona.

Could possibly be interested if you can get a group together.

The point of having this thread is to try to pull a group together. I'm hoping that I can get a group together.

I know, I was just saying that since I'm the only response you've gotten in two and a half weeks, it doesn't seem likely.  However, if you can do it, I'll be around.

Well good luck.  I haven't looked at my books in awhile to see how advanced PL5 is, and that will depend on what kind of character I'll be going after.

Possible interest. I'm running through the D20 modern sourcebook to see I like the system. The plot of the game sounds interesting enough.

I got 2 ideas based on those TV Tropes:
1 - Anti-Hero.  A street-fighting vigilante type.  Basically a good guy who is just pushed too far by things like drug dealers and junkies overrunning his neighbourhood, etc... (similar to TMNT's Casey Jones)

or

2 - Knight in Shining Armor.  A former police officer who is nearly killed in the line of duty.  He'd fit into a superhero type campaign as a sort of Paladin type character.  (similar to Captain America)
PbP Games
The Artifact (prologue) as Dr. Henry Loder, Mayan archaeologist

I asked about which books were open for use because I'm interested in doing a super-hero type character using the mutations found in D20 Apocalypse and D20 Future.

Edit: I would be The Grotesque, so maybe less super-heroism ala X-Men and such, but definetely mutations if allowed.

Kind of unfamiliar with d20 Modern, but this sounds interesting enough to be worth following.

The KiSA sounds interesting if you (j0lt) don't use it.

Not enough ideas at the moment to really pitch in something of my own.

Though, the idea of a Marine who really is as good as the Corps thinks it is (and honorable etc.) is appealing. Rougher around the edges, but soul of steel.

No idea who that would be based on in particular, but I like the sound of it.

Well, if J0lt doesn't mind, I'm settling on the KiSA. Different background, but that trope.

Sounds like you have the beginings of a group. Any SRD-equivalant for d20 Modern?

I'm looking at the Gentle Giant archetype for a bit of a change from my recent string of rather aggressive characters.
