Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.

Yeah, that got a WTF out of me...

I kinda wished they'd explained things a litle more.  The prosecutor accuses her of running the kid over in her wheelchair, but if she's really 1000 pounds you think she'd be too slow to get up the speed to hurt him...Or he'd at least be able to get out of the way...

I mean, a lot of people are fat, but if you're too fat to move, FUCK YOU YOU LAZY FUCKING PIG.

True, but it can (possibly) divert a sufficient percentage of calories to fat-building that, if you eat less, you will lack the energy to survive. The whole point is that her metabolism is fucked up, so I'd recommend finding out the actual effects of the disease before making claims as to how to avoid some of the results. You ass. That's like telling a schizophrenic to stop being crazy.

Although, I could be wrong. If the condition isn't terribly severe, then continue with your ranting. Just find out the particulars before making assumptions, please?

There's a bit of a difference between something that has a direct effect (schizo making you crazy) and something that has an indirect effect (thyroid slowing your metabolism). The former you can really only react to. The latter you can act on (don't eat so damn much/such unhealthy stuff) as well as react to.

Besides, you don't just end up weighing half a fucking ton and being unable to move overnight. Especially if you have a young child.

Point, I suppose. I guess I should have said, "Stop consuming the Calcium your body needs to manufacture the imbalancing chemicals that cause you to go crazy." It's a better analogy, since my point is that it's entirely possible (as a for instance) that her body devotes a certain percentage of all the calories she consumes to fat building, so eating less would decrease fat, but also leave her without the energy to survive. The point is that, if you don't know the actual particulars of the disease, don't go around calling the victims "LAZY FUCKING PIGS".

It didn't have to happen overnight. I would submit that it probably happened over a long period of time, in fact. What's your point, though?

If someone said, "I have cancer," would you tell them, "You should've stayed out of the Sun, asshole."?

Sure, but that's entirely beside my point. My point is that you don't know what the disease in this particular case is. If she's overweight because of her own incompetence, rather than any combination of economic inability to get hold of healthier food, ignorance about the condition until it had progressed sufficiently to be obvious, and such necessities as the disease imposes (such as a hypothetical one I mentioned above), then yes, it's her fault and I don't feel any need to excuse her. But, unless you can show me where it says that's the case, I don't feel like insulting someone based on assumptions I make about them.

I can understand that, even if I might not agree with it. No need to be a bastard to the people who are alive, though.

I apologize for derailing the thread, which I only just noticed I did. To make things better, this is amusing, even if it's really someone making fun of a stupid news item.

In a world were we have a 50% chance of getting cancer each time one of our cells reproduce, I'd say they ran out of luck.

50? Where're you getting that number? My understanding is that there's an error every few hundred million base pairs, followed by proofreading to decrease even that, and even then a mutation has to be one that actually codes for a different amino acid (depending on where in the codon it is, this could be anywhere from 25% to 100%), and even then it has to be in a protooncogene... so I'm gonna say less than 50%?

EDIT: whoops, my bad. I meant 100%, not 1%. Slight difference. Same point, though

it takes a fairly specific set of mutations for a cancer cell to develop, if i recall correctly.. its 5 mutations that happen in order.. that might just be for one specific type..

but its not just one rogue cell gone wrong one time...
