I have superior range to about that tree Shaedof says while pointing at a tree about 60ft away
'DnD is not a game; it is a membership in a tribe that I joined long ago.'

Stupidity should be painful!

Frowns at Loke, "I am a scaled, winged, horned, vermilion, half-demon as you say, Roy is a human. I worry you are too old ... old man."

Turning his attention to the group, "I do not speak orc myself, but once I start the distraction, we can pick out their leaders. If Loke and Shaedof are well enough hidden, perhaps in the tree boughs, they can freeze the strongest orcs. It seemed to work well in our last battle. Agreed gentlemen?" His last word is redolent of hidden humour.

"No, no, don't think, Maya." Ritsuko chided. "We will not gattai the Evas or their pilots.

Such thoughts lead inevitably to transformation sequences."

Well, I guess that says more  about Roy`s looks than my age...

*Ahem*

Treeclimbing? Sure thing. I`d appreciate someone helping me reach the low branches though...
Odin, Feral Shifter Feral Shifter. "Can I drown the dead rat now?"
Loke, Dread Magnate "Me all good and nice. Ask any questions and I`ll kill you twice."

DnD classes is kind of like art. You make lots of stuff that everyone loves but aint no fun to play. This one is like getting a nude pic of Britney Spears when she was hot above your bed.  Anyone can appreciate it. And it works as it should in practise, not just in theory. -Me to Strato regarding his Elemental

In case you haven't noticed, my body isn't built to climb trees! But given enough time I am sure I'll be victorious and conquer a tree! Shaedof says triumphantly while demonstrating his lack of skills on a nearby tree.
'DnD is not a game; it is a membership in a tribe that I joined long ago.'

Stupidity should be painful!
What time of day are you planning on attacking? And are you taking a night off before hand? If so, choose how far you do it from the camp, and level up to 2.

Also, Mini, your range is actually 120 ft, not 60. Extended range feat doubles it.
Guthfrith spends his time wallowing near a tree, waiting for the others to come to some decision.

I'll try to help, but I'll likely just get in the way again...
Could Vargon (and/or Roy) start resting now, and be ready to re-attune during the very early morning (like, between 1 and 3)? And would this be enough of a rest period to level up?

You need the full 8 hour rest + attuning time. If you can manage that, you can level up.

Late afternoon would be four or five pm, yes? So if we rest 8 hours, then spend an hour to attune, it would be 1 or 2 am?

I'd say attack in the early morning. Sentries would be weary, most are asleep and their darkvision doesn't help at all. Hmm, would that be common knowledge? What knowledge to orcs fall under anyway, local?  ???

Untrained Knowledge Local check on orcs, specifically to know if they have darkvision: 1d20 6=21

It'll be the same roll if it was Nature or somesuch as all my untrained Knowledge skills have +6.
Indeed, Roy nods after Vargon has spoken. I suggest you all get what rest you can.

The party beds down for the night, sliding back into the woods away from the orc camp, away from the sentries who move out onto the rim with the dark, away from the growling and howling that accompanies dinner that night in the midst of the foul creatures. It is a celebration night for their dark gods, and the noise echoes out from the canyon into the night sky above. Reaching through the forest, it causes those heroes to toss and turn, a night of ill foreboding and strange thoughts. They wake disquieted and ill at ease.

Roy awakes early. He rouses any who are still asleep and begins talking with Vargon. Can you make your diversion in the woods on the other side of their camp? A noise, of some kind...What do you think would work?

Vargon tucks his pointed chin into the hollow of his shoulder as he thinks. At length he rumbles, "How about the glamer of a bear? An injured one, yes. Its a threat to the tribe which will require their warriors."
"No, no, don't think, Maya." Ritsuko chided. "We will not gattai the Evas or their pilots.
