Background
[spoiler]
Sigrud's foster family was a roving gang of bandits, who found the then toddler in the wreckage of a caravan, the adults and presumably his parents, slain by a passing dragon. The bandits took the child in as a mascot of sorts, considering him lucky, and brought Sigrud up as one of their own. By the age of 10, Sigrud was already a veteran of crime, scouting out targets for the gang and occasionally liberating some goods on his own from less defended travelers, none of which suspected a child of such perfidy. In exchange however, the bandits only robbed, and did no murder in the child's presence.
Murdering or not, their activity drew the attention of the local lords over the years, who set bounties for their capture and adventurers turned up by the dozen to try their fortune. Most failed, but eventually, one band of do-gooders trapped the bandit crew in their hideout. Sigrud got the gang out of the mess, by pretending to be a hostage, and was 'rescued' by the heroes, at the cost of letting the gang escape. The warrior Valthar Blackthorn took a liking to the teenaged Sigrud, taking him as blade apprentice for several years, before sending him out in the world, the none too bright hero satisfied that Sigrud was fit for society.
Sigrud sought out his foster family then, to no avail, the gang having split up and scattered after the incident. That was, until he met old Gaspar -the retired quartermaster of the gang- again, running an semi-honest trade now and and did a little favor for him with the Captain of the Guards there...
