True20, I Think I Love You
« on: August 28, 2008, 10:21:21 AM »
Hey All

In case anyone is interested, I wrote about this on my blog.

Since I'm spewing this just about everywhere in my initial love-blossom for Green Ronin's True20 system, I thought I'd drop a line here as well. The Accidental Survivors got a review copy of the Revised rulebook at Gencon. I'd looked at True20 before, but hadn't really looked, if you know what I mean. I have to say, especially when linked to the genre-specific material in the Revised rulebook, True20 is pretty much going to meet all my traditional tabletop RPG needs. There are some tweaks I'm going to add in my games (because I haven't met a system yet which I have not tweaked), but goddamn it is a sweet, sweet system. Especially for those used to the mechanics of d20.

The changes I'm conisdering:
1) 2d10 to replace 1d20
2) single combat roll, whoever wins does damage

That's all right now. Next step ; find a f#$&ing group.

I haven't seen the system myself but...

Sounds good. You just get a bell-shaped curve for the distribution, instead of a flat one.

How is this going to work, though? What if one person is trying to attack another who is just trying to flee or defend themselves, and not fight back?
[spoiler]
A couple of water benders, a dike, a flaming arrow, and a few barrels of blasting jelly?

Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.
...thanks

True20 is very appealing. I like how much they've slimmed down simple things like ability scores (why have a number and a modifier? Just use the dang modifier). I'm leery of systems that attempt to be all things to everyone, though. I'd love to play a True20 game, to see how character creation and game-play were. It's a pity you're not in Edmonton, dude.

I've qualified for a job there (federal government). If they actually offer me the job, well, maybe I will be in Edmonton.

Noted. However, don't hold your breath. Offering me the job would necessitate paying me to move. Not sure they're down with that.
