Also, in each case, there was someone who wasn't affected, watching everyone else be very strange.  And it was never addressed!!

As I was watching the movie, I realized the same thing. I came up with a possibility. The people who were watching everyone else acting weird all had asthma, and had just gone on a long run. Their airway's had constricted, slowing the flow of the pollen into their systems, allowing them to watch everyone else for a short period of time before succumbing. Though if they had gone for a long run, you would think they'd be sweaty and out of breath, which they weren't. So perhaps instead they were actually plant people spies that had magically evolved overnight to integrate themselves into our society, and invited a bunch of people to parks to get them infected!

That seems a bit of a stretch though...but truthfully I wouldn't have been surprised if this was the case. I thought the movie was good at first, but the more and more I reflected upon it, the worse it became. Though I was startled at one momnet.

Spoiler Alert
When they were driving along in the jeep, and all of a sudden those guys were hanging from the posts, that startled me. But then the scared chick in the backseat ruined the scene.
I saw "The Mist" recently.  It was alright.  Pretty standard survival horror throughout most.  I suggest sitting through it just for the ending.  I enjoyed, would not watch it again, and think it's worth watching if someone you know has rented it or some such.
Maybe I'm just evil, but I thought the ending was pretty funny...

As I was watching the movie, I realized the same thing. I came up with a possibility.

Yeah, long run but then sat down with a friend, who was reading?  I kept waiting for the pollen issue to come up though.  I really thought that there would be something.  My prediction as I suggested was that they had seasonal allergies and were on a prescription allergy medicine that blocked the histamines.  But to just never even address it???

And the speaking tube?  WHY did the old woman even mention that??  Besides to set it up for later.

It would be like dialoge going:
"Howdy stranger!  Come on into my house, it's red, has yellow wallpaper, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths and I have a mole on my left ass cheek, just in case you wanted to shockingly discover it's me boing your wife later tonight."

Oh, and what about when they went to the unfriendly house
and the guy poked the gun out, shot the two kids, and they hovered over the kids, moaning and sad.  WHY did the guy just shoot the kids???  It's not like they tried to protect themselves at all.  They just stood in front of the gun themselves but nope, guess it was just the kids.
The other thing I was sort of hoping was the "twist" was that
The trees were attacking aggression, not just groups of people.  That could've been something interesting-- they meditate, calm themselves, and walk through the scary rustling grass unharmed.  It even set that up!!  The woman reading the book in the beginning was reading a murder mystery and her friend wasn't.  And the woman reading the book died and the other woman didn't.  And then in the end, they weren't scared at all as they walked across the field, so it fit.  It would've been cheesy and hippie, but it would've at least been something!
Yeah, I jumped at that too.

What I got from that was that much the United States' population is ignoring the more important issues. The hick guy in the house kept blaming the deaths on them durned turrurists! I think the kids died because it was to show that our younger generation is dying in Iraq while idiots blame terrorists for everything. This s mostly speculation, but Night's pretty liberal from what I know of him, so this could certainly be an avenue through which he expressed his views. The movie was too entwined with environmental issues and whatnot to be decent.

That's the thing, he didn't explain anything about it.
At the end when they're talking about how we can't understand nature, and that there wasn't an answer of how to stop the epidemic; it's a poor comparison to our situation. We DO know what's happening with our environment, just not enough people care to do anything productive. The movie was just a scare to show how if we kill all of the plant life on Earth, then the tables would be turned on us. The whole movie is a complaint, a bad one at that.
Overall, I just think the movie was a combination of a cry out to not hurt the environment, focus on more important issues and whatnot, and an attempt to make a suspense movie, all crammed into a horrible film of poor display.

On another note, the woman (Alma was it?) was just plain weird to me. I thought they would explain why she was such an oddball, but I guess she was just a poor actor.

Just watched Wanted today.  The action was great, it was kinda like La Femme Nikita meets The Matrix.  The plot....well, whoever wrote that deserves to be stabbed in the face with a hammer.  When the central part of the plot is revealed, I just thought, "Are you fucking serious?  Really?  Awww, man."

If you want to see it, get it on DVD.  Or download it, I actually support that for this movie.

It was brilliant as a comic book. Not sure if it'll be as easy to suspend disbelief as a movie.

The comic and movie are nothing alike. In fact the only thing similar between the two is that there is a character named Wesley Gibson who is really good at shooting people...  That's all. The movie was good, in my opinion. The special affects were good and if you go ahead and suspend disbelief before you enter the theater you'll enjoy it.  That being said, the comic was way different and awesome on a very different scale.
The cake is a lie.

I usually have no problem suspending disbelief, and I've never read the comic that Wanted was based on (in fact, I didn't even know there was a comic).

But
the fact that these guys can regularly bend the laws of physics to make bullets curve and yet they take orders from the fucking "Loom of Fate" really killed it for me.
Hancock's amazing. Not the movie you expect, but still brilliant.

Is it superman without all the lameness of superman?  That's what the previews say to me.  Y'know a superpowered alien that *doesn't* have to be a paladin.  God, Superman is a boring character.  No depth whatsoever.

I just watched an old movie called See No Evil, Hear No Evil with Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor.  It was pretty funny.  A blind man and a deaf man get framed for murder.  Guess which one Gene Wilder is?
deaf.  I know, isn't it weird?
...And today another Comedy Central movie: Scorched.  Yeah, these last two weren't the best movies ever, but not bad entertainment.  You could certainly do worse.

Just recently saw Four Rooms, a combo-movie, partly directed by Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez! The movie was split into four segments, each directed by a different director. The first two weren't that great, but as it is often so, Rodriguez and Tarantino were great. Not sure how many of you have seen it, but it is one of their more obscure movies, so I thought I'd bring it up. Definetly a good movie to see, if you can tolerate the beginning. Won't say anymore, don't want to spoil it.

I laughed harder at that than almost any movie I've ever seen. I was literally crying and rolling on the floor. It isn't something you can watch over and over again, though. It's like a joke you've already heard the 2nd time (or 3rd...). I always recommend it to friends that haven't seen it, and wind up watching it again and again, though, just to share the experience.  :D

I LOVED Four Rooms.  I haven't seen it in years, but it remains just one of my all time favorites.  Tim Roth was brilliant in it.

I strongly recommend though seeing the Twilight Zone that that segment references either before or soon after watching this movie-- it just helps frame it and creates a sense of an in-joke.

Great movie.

Sounds a lot like the Grindhouse twin-feature they did recently.  Y'know - the one with Rose McGowan and the machine gun leg?

Saw Wanted.  Have to agree with public opinion.  Great CG shooting and driving, but the plot was the silliest since Harry Potter.  The "twists" were laughable.
