Inglourious Basterds was interesting.  It definitely had its moments, and some of those were technically brilliant.  Overall, though, I would have preferred to see more of the Basterds in action.  The violence is truly grotesque, so be forewarned.  The dialogue, though, is the most chilling.  The first scene with the SS colonel and the French farmer is superb, as is the tavern scene, though that one is slower to unfold.
The trick of using old film reels as an incendiary is not new.  Stephen Hunter (interestingly, his day job is the Washington Post's movie critic) used old film for this purpose in Pale Horse Coming, which is quite possibly the best of his Earl Swagger novels.

Also, what the hell happened to the other four Basterds?  There are ten of them (including Aldo) by the middle of the film, two get whacked in the tavern, two more in the theatre, but only Aldo and the driver are left at the end?
OK, it's ten freaking years old, but it's the only comedy with Ben Stiller in it that I actually like: Mystery Men.

I think it might just classify as one of those "it's so bad that it's good" movies.
Gendou Ikari is basically Gregory House in Kaminashades. This is FACT.

I havent seen this movie because it isnt out yet but this has perked my interest :D
No freakin' kidding. To quote the article: "Yeah so...this movie is already on the must-see list of 2010."

And for those of you too lazy to read the article, here is some incentive. The title is:
Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis Set to Have "Aggressive, Angry Sex"

Lately I've been catching up with some of last year's movies, cause I didn't really watch very many (much to my dismay) over the course of last year.  Two nights ago it was The Prestige.  That is an awesome movie.  Last week it was Doubt.  Doubt was great and all, it was just....missing something.  I really liked the ending and how it was left open-ended, leaving you to doubt yourself, but overall I think the story telling was rather weak.  Acting: spot on.  Over the next couple weeks it's old movies, with an emphasis on the gangster influenced flicks, such as the Godfather, Dog Day Afternoon, etc.  Classics.  So no new movies for a bit.

Nothing quite like the classics.  I have "A Fist Full of Dollars" coming tomorrow via NetFlix.

Finally got to see the Watchmen today.

Am I alone in thinking Carla Gugino was much hotter as the original Silk Spectre than Malin Akerman was as the newer version?

One of the best!  Have you seen the original movie that it's based on?  (Akira Kurosawa's Yojimbo)

just saw Observe and Report.  Was nice to see Rogen in a different role, beating the unholy living dogshit out of people.

It's also reminded me that despite not normally being the type of woman I find attractive, given the opportunity, I would ride Anna Faris like a monkey on cocaine.

Of course!  The scene where he leaves the chopsticks in the rice is classic.  I've also, unfortunately, seen the Bruce Willis remake, "Last Man Standing".  It had nothing on Kurosawa or Leone.

Just watched Persepolis finally.  I must say: good movie.  If a bit...slow at times.  It also seems to alternate between cliche and unique fairly often, which is kinda confusing.

Persepolis was certainly an entertaining movie. Of course, the first time I watched it was without subtitles, so I was reliant on my tenuous grasp of French.

Just watched Rob Zombies newest effort El Superbeasto.  It references more films, old time superhero serials, tv series, porn, music, and pop culture stuff than I have time to discuss.  It's pretty much style as substance.  If you love the style, you'll love the film.  If not...you won't have anything to distract you from Sherri Moon Zombies squeaky voice character... I still recommend it :D (It is also the first time I have heard the term 'panty hamster')

I also watched Deadgirl.  It is without doubt a most original zombie movie.  Originality does not make up for it's utter repulsiveness in subject matter as it delves into just how sociopathic kids can be.  Seriously some of you may need a hug after watching this, particularly if you're female.  Holy shit it was awesome.  Repulsive, but awesome...
